ATT's what you need to know

I just got my LTATT on Wednesday and it is only for all approved ranges in Manitoba (my province of residence), but it didn't include to the border or to gun smiths. My gun range is where I bought the pistol from and they did the application for the LTATT, so what I'm wondering is if and how I could get the border and gun smiths onto my ATT.

i have 2 current ranges.
the one by the cottage i actually joined first but have never shot there other than the range safety course.

on the back of my ATT it says (among other things)
From (my name and home address)
to : all restricted ranged approved by the cfo-ontario
return to: (my name and home address)

so i know i can bring my restricteds to my cottage area range, its the overnight at my cottage that worries me.

i know see no evil hear no evil..but the last thing i want to do is enter a grey area and have potential to get into any legal issues.
i think im going to call and see if i can have my cottage address added to it.

Then you are fine.

It is the same as if you went to any of the other ranges that are not within 100km of your house you have to sleep somewhere.

I applied for my LTATT 4 weeks ago on Tuesday it was approved on Tuesday and I picked up my firearm with a STATT and record of transfer. If it was approved on Tuesday how long do you think it is going to take to receive the papers? I say maybe next week I should have them. I will post the terms of my ltatt when it is in hand. oh yeah this is in BC

im pissing my pants and i only bought my m&p yesterday

I need to renew my att, quick question for BC shooters. Do I still only fill out the basic info as per the first page of this thread, or do we need to go further into detail with it?

Thanks, Adam

So I just got my RAPL, bought a 1911 from Canada Ammo. The CFC phones me today to tell me that my proof of range membership is required for the registration to be transferred into my name (not the ATT).

I stopped by there on my lunch hour today. They'll be contacting canada ammo by fax and mailing my ATT. It turns out that it was required for the ATT, she just didn't explain that on the phone.

Cool. Now that they have a copy all your future transactions should be smooth and quick.

Re: Nova Scotia -

They may place a hold on your ATT for an address confirmation (without notifying you) then when they receive that will ask for confirmation of membership with a shooting range - oh and by the way the ONLY way they can accept proof is by fax or mail since their e-mail cannot accept attachments (I guess there is a large amount of virus infiltration attached to Jpegs or Pdfs ) and then when they do receive confirmation they will place another hold on it (without notifying you) because by the time all this nonsense is getting close to straightened out your membership is less than 30 days before expiring.
I haven't even received my club renewal notice yet and have yet to use the facilities. Oh, and this is just to bring the thing home. Really?

Am I the only one who has a little trouble understanding the point of this? The way I see it your permit to transfer and the terms thereof should be should be the purpose behind your Restricted License otherwise what exactly is the point of the restricted license then?

Not sure if this is a weird scenario or common one, but here's my question:

If I have my RPAL, can I purchase a restricted from a private seller and have the firearm transported to my home by the seller (who is licensed), and be legal without me having a LTATT or belonging to a shooting range yet ?

Would the seller have to get a STATT for the drive to my residence if they already have a LTATT for the firearm ?

I'm new to this and considering the hoops I've already had to jump through just to get a RPAL issued...I'm going to assume I'm over simplifying this ;)

You would be fine, but the seller would not unless your house is on his ATT.

There are options on the Application for an Authorization to Transport Restricted Firearms to request an ATT to the residence of a licensed firearm owner. Theoretically the seller could do that and the CFO could approve him to bring the firearm to your residence. You then could appraise the firearm and if you decide to purchase it the seller could call the CFC and initiate the transfer to you.

However, I think the chances of getting such a STATT are slim. They would probably have to mail it and the CFO would likely deny the transfer until you joined a range.

Thanks guys..didn't think it would work somehow.

Thing that sucks for a 1st timer is trying to find someone other than a gun shop willing to sit on a potential sale while they wait for the buyer to get all the necessary permits to actually pick up their damn purchase !

..ahh bureaucracy...making things logical since never

You will have no problem. Everyone has to wait with every restriicded transfer just for the transfer, the 5min phone call for the ATT in peanuts.

So even though I don't have an LTATT yet...the seller will still have to wait for the registration transfer to go through anyway ? In other words...if I decide to buy I'll still have time to get my LTATT in order since we've both gotta wait for the registration transfer ?

Did I understand correctly ?

Yes you will have to wait for the transfer to take place before you can take possession. Unless the seller is willing to "lend" you the firearm until the transfer is done.

For the LTATT thing. It is completely seperate from buying a restriced, you dont need a long term ATT to buy a restricted. What you and the seller will need is short term ATT to get to and from the post office or each others houses.

I assume that since you originally asked if his LTATT covered it if he brought it to you house that you live close together. So you purchase would go like this.

Seller:calls CFC starts transfer
Buyer: calls CFC completes transfer
Seller or Buyer: calls CFC in a few days and confirms the transfer is complete
Seller: calls CFC requests anATT from his house to yours for the sale. They will e-mail or fax it to him
Buyer: waits at house for seller.
Seller: gives firarm to buyer and they shake hands
Buyer: goes inside house and fondles new toy.
