ATT's what you need to know

Since this thread was started 7 years ago, would it be a good idea to edit it down/ redo it for what is currently required for a ATT's? Intended to be useful, reading 54 pages of dated material is not.

I've have to respectfully agree. If there were information for NB, it was lost in those (now) 55 pages

If I understood correctly, if I bought a restricted gun at a store
and needed a short term att to transport it from the store to my home that
can be done?

I'm in NB. Waiting for my (r)pal to be issued. I have a couple
.22lr in mind to get started off.

edit: is there a post/thread that describes the ATT for NB?
In BC you need a STATT to bring home a new restricted.
Even if you already have LTATT.
cool eh?

Hey, I searched for the information, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. My friend just purchased a new pistol (his first ever) and has applied for his LTATT, but it will mostly likely be 2 months before he receives it the way things are going now.

Would you happen to know if I would be able to transfer the firearm under my LTATT with him in the vehicle? He just wants to go out an shoot it at my club. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Read the conditions on your ATT (both pages/sides). Does it list the Registration Certificate numbers of the guns you own? Does it say it covers all fire-arms registered to your address? Does it say it covers fire-arms for which you are in possession of the Certificate for?

Those are the three common situations; only in the last case could you transport someone else's hand-gun and still be in compliance. You have his gun, you have his Cert., all is good.

There's a slight hitch in that you are likely only supposed to transport between your listed home address (not his address) and an approved range. To be 100% legal you would need to store them at your place until he gets his papers in order, and for that you'd call the CFO and request a one-time ATT from his place to yours because you're borrowing them.

Convoluted? You betcha.

Minor considerations would be policies of your Club regarding guests and invitations and so on.

Thanks, I'm definitely going to check it when I get home. And I completely forgot about the transfer it from his address to mine. Good thing I asked!! Cheers.

Faxed my LATT to the Surrey, BC office a couple week before Christmas. Still nothing. Any BCers experiencing similar? I am just going to the CFO this Friday and hand them my application in person, as I took the day off.

faxed mine in a week ago, got it today

anyone know what the restricted transfer time is in BC right now?

my LTATT just says

Doesn't have the serial number or make of my firearm, although i just have one restricted.

Does this mean if i had more than one restricted i can transport them all?

Re Ontario

You do not need to belong to a club to buy a restricted firearm. The CFC will ask you which club you will be shooting the firearm at. You may choose at this point to say that you are a collector.
>>>this is not correct<<<
---------------------------------------------------------------
You can not say your a collector. You must have Collector Status with the CFO already. The CFO will send you the paper work to apply for your Collector Status. But be aware that when you do, you agree to waive all civils rights and allow home inspection by the CFO on demand(with in a reasonable time frame). I have Collector Status in Ontario.

I also believe that the handgun safety course he mentions is a requirement of his range not provincial law as the rpal is a safety course!

Can anyone give me a ball park figure the delay in applying for a long term ATT, in New Brunswick, and receiving it?
Say from the time its received by the CFO.

I called the BC CFO Monday to get my LTATT. The gal informed me that I needed a range membership first, but said she would start the application and said to just email a scan of a range membership in once I purchased one. I got that taken care of yesterday, and emailed a copy in to the BC CFO. They sent me back a BC province wide LTATT about an hour later.

I called the number on the first page of this thread (1-800-731-4000) on the first info about BC. The gal there transferred me to the BC CFO. I waited about 20 minutes on hold before talking to someone who initiated my BC LTATT.

Thanks trikebubble, I have one more question that I was going to phone the CFC about but I'll probably get a quicker answer here. On my application form in Personal Informaton the very last box, in Residential Address asks for Effective Date. It also asks for Effective Date in the last box of Mailing Address. I'm thinking they want to know how long I've been at these address' but I don't want to fill it in wrong.

If you are able to speak with someone at the BC CFO, you won't have to fill out the form, they will just take the information over the phone.
