ATT's what you need to know

1. Take restricted firearms course.
2. Join a club (this is not a requirement in Alberta, and is an optional step)
3. Buy a Handgun or Black Rifle, or one of each, and 20,000 rounds of ammo, you will be issued an ATT to take it home (temporary).
4. Call the CFC at 1-800-731-4000 and tell them you would like a long term ATT with the following conditions attached:

a: You want to be able to transport firearms to all approved ranges all over Western Canada, including the Territories. (BC,AB,SK,MB,YK,NWT,NVT)
b: You want it for 5 years, or until the expiry date of your PAL
c: You want to be able to transport all legally posessed firearms, which means you can borrow them from friends and family provided you have the registration certificate
d: You want it good 24/7 and good for all Border Crossing into the USA

5. Go redneck go!!!!!!!!! You are now armed with the most important piece of paper concering your precious few firearms freedoms!!
6. Attempt to get an Authorization To Carry permit for when you are in the wilderness. Let us know how you make out!!

Well sorry to say ManBoy but you will have to ammend you rendition to Alberta ATT Allowed Conditions.

I just spoke to AB CFO today and apparently as of Dec 16th/06 they started to enforce FA Sect 67(2) & 6 regarding long term ATT's. You will only get long term ATT within Alberta. Western Canada invitational shoots outside Alberta No longer are approved. They now will only issue you a temporary time/date specific ATT.

You may be able to still appeal to the CFO (Morris Sawchuk 780 495-7799) For Long Term ATT for western Canada, but don't count on it.

The Lady I spoke to today told me that prior to the "wake up and smell the coffee date" that YES they used to issue long term ATT's to all points western Canada. According to her the other provinces were complaining that they were enforcing the act where as AB was not????

I THINK I SMELL :bsFlag:

Au contraire K98Action.

My ATT (issued Jan/07) covers all points in western Canada and is good for 3 years (PAL renewal date).
To get this, you need to prove your a member of IPSC. As I was just renewing my ATT, I was able to call it in, but I had to fax in copies of my range membership and IPSC certificate.

So, they may be cracking down on 'general purpose' large area ATT's, but getting a ATT for western Canada is still possible.

(E)

Yes you are correct, the general issuance has been cracked, but she did ask me if I was a member of IPSC? Which I still thought was BS, because why just IPSC, how come the what ever competiton does not qualify. I guess IPSC have a nice offical looking certificate I don't know. But she also left open the possibility of contacting the CFO as I mentioned, and maybe if you are a good BS, then you may get one without IPSC certificate.

nope, no fancy cert for us IPSC'ers. I'd tell her you travel for other competitions and that they are just as valid as IPSC ones.

Here is a down loadable version of BC long term ATT with notes, pertinent information filled out. Download, fill out, save a copy on your HD and print and fax it in.

BC Long Term ATT
Just used this form myself and dropped it off at the surrey office in person. The lady looked it over asked what club i was a member of, no proof required, filled in that info and she said ok, it could take up to two weeks depending on how many applications they have. All in all a positive experience and i saved myself a stamp because i was in the area. Thanks for the link Echo

No worries, I just took an existing document, amended it to the most generic format/data required and made it easy to print and submit, uploaded to my web site, and bob's your uncle.....

There are 7 provinces which are refusing to obey portions of the act. In Alberta it is ILLEGAL for a conservation officer to ask for registration.

I'm in Vancouver and I put my application in the mail 3 weeks ago and haven't heard back from them. Has anybody ever called to check on their status of the application? Do they get pestered a lot and do they get miffed if you call?

I called on day 29, found out there was an unchecked box on the application and they were sending me a letter about it. She said we can do this over the phone so we did and i was approved then and there, got my licence about a week and a half later in the mail.
Phone them, it's your tax dollars that pays for everything at the CFC.

renewal

Is there a separate form to renew a long term ATT? (Mine actually expired on me last weekend)

Or is it just a matter of filling out the regular form again?

For some reason my ATT expired in 2007 while my PAL expires in 2009. Perhaps because it was my first licence and ATT?

I phoned and she is out of the office until the 10th... WHHHHYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
Dang you Murphy. and yer law too. hahaha
oh well, I've been going through this process since December. what's another couple weeks eh?!
