ATT's what you need to know

If you have your restricted you can buy either or both. For the in-store, expect to buy it and have it sit at the shop while the transfer is completed. 1-3 days typical. The CFO will not approve the transfer without a "handgun club" membership even though the ACT only requires intent to target shoot or register as a collector. You will not get them to issue a LTATT without the membership either. So, depending on your club, you may not have your membership "proof" for the CFO until after your safety training orientation or you pay the handgun fee. If you have the membership "proof", the seller will require that for the CFO and transfer. Once the transfer is approved, you will call in for a STATT to go pick up the firearm.

For the mail order bride, you will need to provide the gun club membership and your PAL - restricted (possibly a digital image). They will ship it to your house unsecured and then you will be required to put all the locks in place, once you remove the wrapper. Really! If you have to go to a mailbox or location to pick it up, you will require a STATT. STATTs are very quick to get (assuming you can talk to someone) and are emailed out within a few minutes of calling.

Now the wait begins... You can not remove the firearm from your premises without the Registration. They could put the number on the LTATT, but they consider it a burden to reissue new LTATTs for those who frequently buy and sell guns. Of course, everyone knows what the Reg # is, but the paper for it can take 2 weeks to show up! The LTATT usually shows up before or on the same day as the Notice of Transfer (a useless piece of paper that tells you the registration will be following soon, about another week). They won't normally issue a STATT for range use unless it is for a course.

Okay, so I finally got my RPAL and PAL. I joined a club and they gave me an ATT form that lists all firearms registered under me. If I get a new firearm later do I have to re-submit this? This is for BC. Also, is the fax number on the first page of this thread for the CFO still accurate or is there a new one?

Hey,

Just got some restricted firearms, and my paperwork is all here. My LTATT is on 3 pages, ideally I'd like to photocopy it be able to cut off all the excess paper and put it all in my wallet.
So is it okay to have photocopies?
How many of the LTATT pages do I need? one has a wallet sized cutout with my name and auth number, the next has additional conditions, the final one just has 4 sentences on it basically repeating what was said on the others..

Thanks!

So, I finally got my PAL/RPAL (yay!). The issue is that I live in Alberta but will be traveling home to Ontario for 1.5 months in the summer. I'm planning to take any firearms I own with me instead of leaving them unattended in the safe for so long as I don't really have neighbors and people will know I'm gone for almost 2 months (slight fear of thievery). This will be easy enough with unrestricted, but how much of a pain in the you know what am I looking at to get an ATT to take any handguns from AB to ON and back? Also, I have an empty gun safe I left at my parents' (where I'll be staying) Is it ok to leave my firearms there should I go away for a week to the cottage (as long as their locked up properly?)

Manitoba, June 2015. A range membership was required to satisfy the target shooting reason. I received a letter that my transfer was denied. Make sure you have a current membership in Manitoba.

That does not change the fact that the CFO will deny your transfer, and your purchase will sit in limbo. The policy vs law debate has been hashed out a thousand times. So explain what your comments should relate to people who read this thread? I agree with you 100% that it is not required by law. But your still getting your gun.

And my purchase was from Frontier to boot in your province.

Not required by law

Maybe if people would stop bending over because its easier and actually use what is in the act to help them this stuff would not happen. Did you explain to them that you do not require it and if they insisted you would be seeking a section 74 hearing?

This has been beaten in court numerous time the only reason it still happens is people are too lazy to fight it. Usually the second you mention section 74 you magically get your transfer.

Hey guys, just bought my first restricted firearm off a buddy. CFO asked if he can email my LTATT to my email address, how long does that typically take?? Also he called it a "Short term ATT", not sure if that is different or just his words to describe it's one time use....any answers much appreciated, cheers!!

Short term will be for a one time use or as specified on Att. in your case most like stating to transport from his place to yours during whatever period of time.

Thanks man, called in today, and I guess they were still waiting on my proof of range membership. I didn't send anything in regarding proof as he took my membership particulars over the phone so I thoguht I was done...first time restricted buyer here (can you tell :) Apparently they sent out a letter asking for it on July21st which hasn't arrived yet. All good though, proof faxed in today so shouldn't be long now to get the STATT and hopefully the LTATT wont be far behind...Cheers!

New Sept 2nd 2015

Everything is different as of 2015-09-02 your Authorization to Transport is tied to you FireArmsLicense "encoded" or what had two as my primary range was outside the NWT and I hold a secondary membership inside the NWT ie. the gun range for the Fort Smith Conservation Association is located in Alberta by 5Km.

I had a license up for renewal while the FSCA was not in status due to range definencies, so I took out a membership in the Hay River Gun Club. (Best deal I've ever done) when I bought a pistol on Sept 8th 2015 I got a new Firearms Acquisition Certificate - RPAL with the conditions tied to the License. and it is directly linked to my previous LATT's.

@manboy,
I disagree with #2 Join a club (this is not a requirement in Alberta, and is an optional step)
It is mandatory, as I've received a letter from CFO of Alberta informing me that the registration application is missing either the proof of membership in a gun range or a collector's form, and they can't proceed without either of them.

i was told not to even try and buy a restricted until they had proof of range membership ( Alberta) I emailed them my alberta range membership and a bc range membership
c-42 conditions were added to my pal and a new one was printed and mailed.

and i was issued a att for the bc range.
not sure if alberta cfo does western canada allowances on the c-42 stuff anymore

Under c-42 they legally can only issue for province of residence
