ATT's what you need to know

4) Just a note.. I sent my application for the RPAL away March 27, it has been approved and I will have the license in hand in another 1-2 weeks it takes Canada Post to get it here. 1 week, to get the range membership, another 1 week for the long term ATT.. and we are at 100 days from the day I took the course to the day I can actually fire a gun.. Fu**ing rediculous.:mad:

Question: I recently moved, had a home to club ATT, got a home to new home ATT. Then called to get a new home to club ATT. They said ok but its been weeks. Left a message with the Ont. CFO asking for an update but they didn't call back.
What else can I do?
 
Anyone in Bantario have any recent turnaround times for the CFO to issue an ATT to you via your club???? I heard 3-4 weeks. Does this sound right?


Turns out about 6 -7 weeks is what I ended up waiting.

Just for protection, a rifle isn't always practical to carry around I've discovered.

As far as the ATC goes, I have no idea although it would be nice to have one for in the bush. I am going to use the one off your link for two ATT's that I need for new guns but I also understand from reading this thread ( eyes bleeding....yes) that I will need to show proof of my club membership which is new because I did not need it before. Maybe someone can direct me to the place that has this new rule because besides reading it hear I can't find anything about it on the CFC site.
 
I currently have a Non-restricted PAL and I am interested in buying a handgun. I belong to the gun club here. Can I just go buy a handgun, take the course, get the ATT and bring it home?

Call again during business hours and ask to speak to the CFO. Ask why there is a hold up. Explain you need to get the practice in or there is a match etc. Explain that there is no reason for the hold up and that you will be contacting your MP. Then contact your MP and ask why you are being treated as a criminal by the CFO. Call the CFO everyday repeating the same questions.

It is usually: take Restricted course, buy, get short term ATT, take home, get long term ATT. Or maybe request both ATTs at the same time. When your restricted transfer is approved they should fax the short term at the same time. At least here in BC.

Hello,

I just thought I should let you all know my recent experience. A few weeks ago I purchased my first handgun online. In the process of the registration being transferred to me (prior to them shipping it), I got a call from the CFO requesting that I fax a copy of my gun club membership to them. When I called to make sure they received my fax, I was informed that they would go ahead and make out an LTATT and send it to me. I was very impressed--I thought I would have to go through a whole big application process. So as of now, I have not yet received my gun (it is currently in the mail), but I have already received my LTATT, which is good to and from all approved ranges in Saskatchewan, gunsmiths and border crossings.

Put it in writing. (Keep a copy.) Send it registered mail. See what happens then.

This is almost correct, except that in BC you now have to show proof of club membership so it would be:

Take restricted course, join club, buy, get STATT, take home, get LTATT. I had to fax a copy of my club membership card to get my last LTATT, and CFC will ask the name of your club as part of the transfer process.

1) In Quebec, ATT MUST be send by mail. They request ORIGINAL of your signature.
2) A ATT is good only for the Range your are member off.
3) You need an official invitation to get a SATT for a competition, etc.
4) When asking for the PAL/RPAL the first time, they request to have a form completed by a policeman. The policeman should post to permit request.
5) Starting september 2009, law #9 course+exam are required to be member of a range.
6) To be identified as a collector, you must pass an exam. And they sometime try to "forget" you are a collector and force you to become member of a range.

Okay - confused. My club wants you to bring your own restricted and at least 20 rounds of ammunition in order to complete the Law 9 exam. How, exactly, do you do this without first owning a restricted and having an ATT?

They should have a firearm that they supply you to use, how else are you going to do it? I would call them up again and ask for clarification.
 
Ontario club ATT usually reads "to any club in province approved by CFO". This assumes you are invited by one of their members, or attending a competition. Have never heard of Law#9. Many ON clubs require a new member take and pass the "CSSA Club Level Handgun Safety Course"
 
I think the Law9 thing is similar to the safety course. When I took mine they had a .22 and all you needed to do was put 10 shots on paper at 10 yards, the paper was 8.5x11 they had provided the firearm too.
 
To pass the law 9 they handed me a .22lr pistol (buckmark) along with .22lr ammo, I had to pay a f**king 15$ for it, that pretty much made me angry for the rest of the night since they never, ever talked about a f**king 15$ to pay, I did put 18 of the 20 rounds in a nice little 2"x1" group just over the center (can't see the f**king holes at 15 yards, better than the guy next to me with his 357 magnum, a black belt bastard none the less :D).

Law 9 is bulls**t, and I needed to pay 50 f**king bucks to eat that s**t. I hope that makes me superior to every Quebec citizen... oh wait, I already am. :D
 
Alright total ATT newby here. I'm in BC, lets see if I ge tthis right:
Pass RPAL (check)
Send in paperwork (check)
wait about 6 weeks (in progress)
buy pistol (in progress, sort of)
seller initiates transfere.
I confirm transfere.
CFC sends out new reg and STATT.
I pick-up pistol and apply for LTATT.


Is there any way I can do this with email? I'm currently deployed and the phones/timezone aren't exactly working for me.
Any help would be great.

Join an approved club.

Buy (and initiate the transfer of) a restricted firearm. You will have to declare your purpose (target shooting) and tell them the name of your club. You will have to provide proof of your membership to your CFO. You will need to wait until the transfer is approved before you take possession of the firearm. Once the transfer is approved you will need a short-term Authorization To Transport (available over the telephone) to take your firearm home.

Apply to your CFO (using the paper form 679) for your long-term Authorization To Transport.
