ATV duel

Its quite boring, the 650 keeps winning all the time. I have seen it about... 10 times now?

*edited to add: ATVing is all we do around here. Last honda had 30,000 KMs on it, had a 650 Outlander for about 2 months now and it already has 3000 KM's on it. I know ATVing and I have seen everything there is to see. I put more clicks on in a month than most people do their whole quads life.

Ya, out west here we never ride. The terrain is far to steep and harsh in those there mountains. We all just own quads to sit on in the garage and go vroom vroom

Not saying you dont. Im saying you dont as much as me. When you get 30,000 on a bike you let me know.

I'm not saying one is better than any other, but I do own a 98 Polaris 500 Sportsman(No EBS).It has over 5000 MILES on it and all that I recall replacing (so far) is one front hub seal, one belt, brake pads and front struts.I have plowed a small mountain of snow with this thing for 6years and that is why the struts got buggered.
This machine has pulled more than several moose from some really knarly spots, hauled sand, wood, logs, been on long leisure rides and my son has rolled it(once that I know of).
All I do is keep the oil changed, wash it now and again, and grease it regular.
Just this past moose season (in Quebec) another guy (who owns a 06,Suzuki,King quad 700)and I got to yapping (in fun)at each other about this and that regarding our bikes.
Anyway I ,(kidding around) said, "OH yeah.well throw a chain between us and I'll drag that Suzuki around the country side!"
He said,"Lets do it"
OK,So we get out on this gravel road with about 10 feet of chain between us and start giving them hell.
I fully expected him to drag me backwards OR both quads just to start digging furrows(which they did initially)
I dont know wether he let off a bit or what but I started dragging him and continued to do so for about 50 feet when I just stopped.
I'm not saying mine will outpull his, but it did that day,and he didnt like it!
An 1998 500 Polaris out-pulling an 2006 700 Suzuki King Quad on that day did not sit well with him, in front of the whole camp.
Probably had something to do with the standard wimpy tires that come with the Suzuki
Anyway I've had good luck and a great time over the years with mine.
You can knock Polaris all you want, but I'd buy another.
I have seen many old Honda's take a terrible licking and keep ticking.
They are tough old bastards.
I still like my Polaris though.

Not to mention the fact that the 500 sportsman actually weighs over 100lbs more than the 700 king quad.A big advantage for a pull off,but a big disadvantage when crossing muskeg.

How much of that mileage is hard pack trailing?
Just curious.:)

Id say out of one nights riding there is 5 KMs each way on the road to get to the "trails." This is what we ride in, crummy pics as we dont bring digis through that crap with us. One pic is digital from hunting season last year, not when we go out mudding. Theres a hole this bad or worse usually every 100-200 feet.

Yes,weight is another factor in a pull off.
As I said I dont claim one make is better than another.Just thought it was a bit of a funny story.
Ride whatever you like or can afford.:)

Well I own a 2002 rubicon myself and I consider the drum brakes to be inferior to discs.Honda obviously agrees as most of the new machines including the new Rubicon come equipped with front disc brakes. However,I do like everything else about the machine.

Its about time Honda Figured out that drum brakes are junk.
