Looking at buying a new to me used honda 350 quad.

Anyone have experience dragging out deer or even elk with a 350? I know I could 1/4 it and strap it down but curious how well they do dragging em out ?

What do you use?

They pull better by the nose than the tail...... :)
Honda's are a good reliable work horse.
It should do the trick if it isn't too ugly where you're going.

A bunch of years ago, two chaps shot a big two point bull moose.
I have no idea how they got that beast on their 450 Honda.
But the moose flatten out the suspension and made the quad
look like a Hot Wheels.
A gutted moose loaded on a quad, hoofs, tail, head and all.
Yikes.

I have a Yamaha 350 Big Bear and I've taken out two Moose with it. One was a decent sized Bull, four quarters and the horns tied down front and back. The second was a young spike Bull we got in a semi slough bottem area with a couple of old skid roads, I'm guessing it was likely an old winter logging show. Choked it around the neck, a half hitch around the nose and a short hook-up to the ball trailer hitch on the back, then skidded it out to our vehicle without any problem.

With a honda 350, you can drag the whole deer out at once no worries. I dragged out a big old buck on my honda 500 once. Not sure about elk as I have never hunted them.

I used an old 350 honda to pull out two moose. They have the power but they don't have the weight to do it well. On one moose I spend half the pull with the front tires off the ground, but it got the job done. The 2nd larger moose that was further away and with 6 inches of fresh show was done by cutting in half an dragging that way.

I have a 450 honda now and it has pulled out a lot of moose and did it with authroity. Traction has still been a bit of an issue but it is a heavier machine with better tires, it handled the job much better than the 350.

For deer and a light elk the 350 sould have no issues. We used a 250, 2wd atv once to help haul out a moose but we quartered the moose and put a quarter on the front and back racks.

is it a 4x4 model , or a 2 wheel drive version .

if it's a 4x4 , no problem pulling out a moose , assuming you leave the hide on and pull it by the head .

if it is a large moose you might want to put on a set of chains and some weight on the front and rear racks .

just be aware if you decide to drag the animal out , you take some sort of measures to keep it clean , it is possible to fill the insides up with dirt and mud really quickly if you aren't carefull .

Get a small trailer. Much easier on the (smaller) machine.

Glad to see the trailer works so well:). I got one a while back of a very similar size from the John Deere dealership south of Duncan. Wheels are or appear to be the same as yours and when I spotted the one I picked up, it looked a little different from what they had in stock for lawn and garden tractor use. Apparently at some point in time, Bombardier used to build quads for John Deere and this was a trailer they had brought in to gp with one of the quads. Has all the John Deere colours and decals. O'll get a photo when I get the chance but it'll be hard to compete with yours having a Moose in it:p.

Update;
I did find a picture of quadding out a Moose but none of the trailer.

We tie 2 quads in tandem to drag large moose. That way we can leave the guts in until camp. A lot cleaner that way. 2 quads will pull anything no problem.

That said you can't go wrong with a Honda. They run forever with a bit of maintenance.

Honda never made a 350 2wd for north america. As for the OP a honda is a great choice and I'm assuming you've found yourself a rancher style instead of the old forman. The quad will have enough jam to spin out before it powers out as long as your tires aren't too big for it. They are light though. We used to make a point of towing the broken "big quads" home with the oldest 350 available.

Lots of my wheeling friends have them .Great bike!l bought a new 550 arctic cat a couple years ago.Nice bike but l'm glad l had the five year warranty.lt had a few issues that had to be looked at.l have about 1100 km on it now.Problems started at about 700kms.
