Now that was fun. That was really fun.
Thanks to SFRC, OneShot Tactical and S&J Hardware for providing the prizes. I have to say, everyone leaving with something is a great approach for, well, everyone to have a good time.
Many thanks to Napanee and District Rod and Gun for hosting the shoot, and to 6gm6 for organizing and running it.
And now, for the lessons learned portion of this post, in no particular order:
1- If your shotgun stock came with a specific Allen key, take it with you in case your stock gets loose;
2- S&B slugs. They're your friend. With a Knoxx SpecOps stock, BadBoyBeeson's own shotgun and even a Mossberg that needs the arms of a gorilla to cycle properly, the recoil is negligible. You could fire the damned things all day and only feel it in your wallet.
3- Ammo. Always brings lots. Bring more than you'll think you'll need. You never have too much ammo.
4- If you've got questions about the stage or procedures or anything like that, ASK THEM. Not clarifying some info cost me a few procedurals. But it's all good because I'll know for later.
5- Accuracy, accuracy, accuracy. In the words of many a practical shooter, you never miss fast enough to win.
6- For stages where moving and shooting are required... a rifle helps. A lot.
7- Breathe. Remember to damned breathe. You can't hit s**t if you can't breathe.
And while I know I'm not winning this match by a long shot (haha, pun intended), I know I looked good doing it!
