Thought I would vent. I had been using a Lyman gen6 for the past 3 years. Recently the load cell seems to have gone wonky for no apparent reason, often being out as much as 2 full grains on loads above 50 grains. Not good, I took her apart , cleaned, de static down to the load cell and circuit board level, no joy. The exercise just made me realize how relatively cheaply everything is made. Looked at the competitors and honestly they all look like they are built from the same Chinese factory.
Decided I was going to bite the bullet on the made in Canada Autrotrickler v4 and made in Korea Fx120i scale and after a month's wait I finally got the combo 3 days ago. Probably took me close to an hour to to de-box and carefully put everything together, turn everything on. Scale powers up but won't read any load, won't zero, ffs!! I read the entire scale manual, didn't help. Call the Canadian vendor Cambridge Environmental and troubleshoot with a nice lady named Jeanelle. She thinks its broken, I agree but she won't issue a RMA until I talk to a product engineer in the US that works for A+D engineering, the manufacturer of the scale. I'm a little pissed because it obviously does not support its core function of measuring weight, not entirely sure what an engineer will bring to the party but reluctantly agree to call the contact number. After 2 days of phone tag I finally get to talk to him. He instructs me how to get into an engineering mode on the scale , run a menu command to see if there is any load detection, there is none( really only proving that I am not a complete idiot) and then declares the unit broken. He suspects its a simple fix and offers me permission to open the unit without voiding the warranty. I'm like its a dud straight out the box and for the small fortune I paid for this scale I don't feel like I want to fix it. I have plenty of stuff I have to fix on my wife's to do list and I am seriously not looking for additional entertainment.
After more comms with Cambridge they finally issue me an RMA for its return trip, they of course won't ship its replacement until they get it. I think it would have been easier just get a credit card charge back but I still want to try the autotrickler/scale combo. That said, things this expensive should not be that hard to sort when it obviously does not work. Rant off.
