Availability of 7.62x39 ammo

ammo

In the 70"s and 80"s I was buying BULK 303 ammo. It was "steal" point" and alot of it was BELT ammo. The accuracey was so-so but very cheap. I was paying $20.00 per 125rnds. We blasted off thousands of rounds for years...and then it was gone. But thet the difference is,.. 7.62 x39 is still being used and i feel the avalability will always be around in some capacity.

Was that the Pakistani stuff? I think my Dad still has some of that, lol. As for x39 being around for a long time, I agree. I don't see it being anywhere near a dollar a round with no surplus in existance for a long time.

I'm not scared that it will dry up for all the reasons already mentioned.

My fear is that the beurocrats will regulate it's importation so severely that it will hardly be worth it anymore.

I haven't been in this game for that long and in the last few years we have seen crates jump up in price about $100.

I can't see the world ever stop manufacturing this caliber of ammunition. Even if the surplus dries up, the 7.62 soviet round is the most popular caliber on earth.

Former communist countries have such a huges undergounds rooms full of 7,62 that in 100 years north-american shooters cannot use all.
I was inside such place in Romania.

sure they will cost much , but if 2012 is the end of the world , buy more of it , money will come useless and bullet will be the money !

im thinking we will never run out of 7.62x39mm , because many gun are shooting it like ak

Of course the world will not run out of cheap surplus 7.62x39 in our lifetime, but NRCAN will one day #### it up for us, that's for sure.

In the mean time, the great thing about those gun shop guys spreading rumors is that someone might believe it (before getting wiser) and buy a bunch of crates, and end up with a rather nice stockpile. In 10 years I'll be glad I got paranoid. I have so much of that sweet sweet Chinese non-corrosive stuff to shoot even before I get to the Czech stuff.

Always buy 2 crates, shoot one and store the other.

I doubt it will run out soon. The Chinese and Warsaw Pact nations made many many millions of guns that shoot this ammo. I'm sure they made the ammo to go with them as well.

You got ripped, man!
In the mid 90's, I bought a few thousand mixed headstamp .303 FMJ from Sarco in NJ for US$70 per 1000 :)

I shoulda bought a hell of a lot more!

7.62 Nato is still being used, but cheap surplus is hard to come by.
This probably has more to do with the military surplus policies of the member nations of Nato, than the actual amount of supply.

It's because you're looking at the online vendors who want $10.50 for FMJ and $12.00 for the soft points. These are the same vendors who always go on about how they're not gouging lol

Island Outfitters in Victoria has the stuff for $6.50 a box, and their overhead is pretty damn high.

thats what they charge when you buy a case of 500, its 8.99 individually last time i bought a few, still cheap tho

The Yarmouth Canadian Tire in NS sells the MFS stuff for 12.99. They also sell
Russin refurb SKS...it would be easy to gouge a little bit on the ammo as the next nearest place to buy 7.62 *39 is an hour or more away.

Never noticed if the other CT stores even carried that caliber. I'll be ticked if theres a price difference.
