Hello All;
Just wanted to share the awesome time I had getting my first turkey. It was my third time out - the first time, I had a few hens in my decoys, but didn't see the males. Next, I had a tom set up out of range and couldn't get him to commit. Yesterday morning, my buddy and I headed out and got set-up around 4:30 in the .am at the edge of a cornfield. We setup a hen decoy about 30 yds out and then sat down and enjoyed the quiet. At the first hint of light, there was some gobbling in the trees just to our right. What an awesome sound! As daybreak came, the gobbling got a bit more frequent. I then heard the whoosh of the Tom coming down and he landed about 20yds from the decoy. A couple of clucks sent the tom into full strut. I waited until he took a step or 2 and extended his head and then took him. On the way out, we saw 2 whitetail deer watching what we were doing. Couldn't have asked for a better morning. The tom ended up being 20.5lbs with 8" beard and 1 1/8" spurs. To say I was/am excited is an understatement. I am looking forward to going out and trying to fill tag No. 2. Anyways, just wanted to share the pics of this awesome bird. Good luck to all that are heading out for them.
