We all know that the triggers on the axis/edge require a wee bit of pull to make these rifles go bang. I've been seeing a lot of posts of people modifying these triggers by cutting a coil off of the spring on the trigger mechanism.

My concern is how this will affect the safety of this gun. Having a trigger let go when the rifle is bumped or otherwise can be a little unpleasant ot say the least and if the user is not practicing safe handling a tragedy can occur.

Is the method that has been promoted as of late safe ? IMHO I would leave things factory or buy a proper trigger upgrade such as a Basix or Timney.

The word is you start cutting off little bits untill you find the weight agreeable. And if you go to far it will fire when bumped.

I just run it as it was made

Is it just possible that Savage chose the spring for good reason, ? Like safety?
How long before someone cuts the spring , has an unexplained dischareg into someone and tries to sue Savage?

Why would someone has a discharge into someone? You should not be pointing your gun at anyone like never. Also spend $100 bucks and buy a rifle basix.

Cutting springs in a trigger mechanism sort of reminds me of a few years ago when guys were cutting coil springs in their VW Jettas and GTi's to lower them rather than buy proper aftermarket springs. It worked great (I did it too!). Should we have been doing it? In hindsight, probably not.

ask installed a rifle basix.

all parts needed were in the package
very simple instruction with diagrams were included
only tool I needed was something to pop off the c-clip
I recall any hex wrenches were included
total time less than 15 minutes on the kitchen table (ask SWMBO for permission first:D)

result: A great trigger that breaks like glass at under 3 lbs

Trust me if I can do it any one can.
