B&t apc 223 pic thread-range report page 4

Definitely looks like a heat treatment/finish issue. Whether or not it is detrimental, I don't know. But I've heated up steels to glowing-hot with torches and they end up looking similar.

mainly because it only appears to be cosmetic and solely isolated to the bolt carrier. maybe ill pm them linking this thread but unless its going to affect safety or function ill keep testing. the light strikes are more of an issue to me, once i try ammo that i know to be reliable then ill bring the issue to them. like i said this is my first time with this specific ammo and coupled with being a brand new rifle it could have just exacerbated the issue. if it keeps happening then maybe B&T should up the hammer spring weight or lower the firing spring weight... and send me one.

Just to collaborate, mine is unfired. Can a few others check theirs?

this looks like this isn't one rifle that slipped by a qc check, i wonder if this is some intentional process? some additional heat treat on impact parts? they all seem to have that "shadow" ahead of the flaking finish. when i tore my rifle down before the range i manly focused on the bore and bolt face, i didn't think to check the cam pin. seems like everyone got this "feature" now im even more curious.

well im set for groups

Nice, seems like everyone's rocking the charging handle on the left. it make the most sense.

heres my group at 100 from today's trip. 45 rounds on the same point of aim with an ACOG and heated up barrel to get a practical accuracy average. it wasnt a one shot a minute precision shoot but i did take my time between shoots. results seem comparable to my swiss.

i need to adjust my scope up and left, majority seem to be around 2~in/sq

whats your input guys?

My unfired one looks similar, both the cam area and the piston striking face. What it looks like to me (keep in mind, I'm not a metallurgist, just a repair machinist) is spot hardening to provide wear resistence. It's weird that it was done after the black oxide, because black oxide shouldn't cause any annealing. Unless it's not black oxide. If it's a PVD-type coating, temperatures might be high enough to cause annealing.

I should have got off my lazy ass to go to the range today. I might have seen you there.

yep, it is pretty bad

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JEIC3ZY/ is what I was looking at, but I might just make something out of rubber hose and paracord when I buy an optic for this gun.

You did the right thing not coming today. It was a GD zoo up there, the crowd was huge. Apparently Saturday was dead. I packed up quick when the group beside me tried showing the yoga ugg girl how to handle a handgun... whilst promptly loading it so she could unfamiliarily fumble with it in single action as one guy over either shoulder gave conflicting instruction. Had to speak up about that one.

Oh yeah, sounds like typical Range 7.

Just throw a temporary strap on to test for now? Like voodoo or Blackhawk or something.

well Im going to the range tuesday probably, so I'm kinda screwed, I might just tie 2 belts onto it or something to make it thicker, pffft, if I dont get the same chin/cheek weld on there it's gonna mess up the groups.
