B+T APC223 SBR Review

This is my single biggest beef with the APC223, and one that has kept me from diving in on one. For the money, they should be coming out of the gate with a quality, adjustable stock from the factory.

If you look at B&T’s catalog, a lot of their rifles are based on classic designs. They may have taken inspiration from the 80’s for the stock or it could just be a European thing. Very reminiscent of a Sig Commando or MP5K PDW.
Also makes me wonder if that’s why all their guns originally had reciprocating charging handles and integrated grips.

That should also take care of that amazing 2 stage trigger in your initial review. The APCs I was exposed to had very average triggers - nothing approaching a match-type AR trigger or as good as the Classic Green/PE-90s

Hopefully not, but I’ll let you guys know about any changes.

Edit:
No change in the trigger.
It was a heavier firing pin spring that was included in the parts.

Yes, perhaps a 'Euro thing'. The grip cast with the lower is another oddity similar to HK stuff.

The thing is the buttstock on the APC just sucks - regardless if it came on a Type 81 or some franken SKS, it would still suck. The fact it comes on a quality Swiss made rifle makes it so much more unbearable. OK - I'd give it a pass on the APC-9, (I'd wager a bet that was the design intent) but saddling it to the .223 and .308 rifles? Ridiculous. If you look at, or are fortunate to try out the adjustable stock they offer as an accessory (at around $800-900 cad last I checked) - they made some improvements, but it still suffers from very limited range of adjustability and generally poorly thought out and executed considering these are latest generation firearms.

They really need to change the stock on this rifle. I would consider buying one if it came with a decent stock, but no way I’m buying it as is... and spending even more money to fix it.

Agreed, they definitely need to put more thought into the stock. Some padding would have been nice.
That being said, it’s still a very pleasant soft shooting rifle with the OEM stock.

If you run a super low red dot you can get away with the factory stock but any optics AR height (I dunno how else to describe them) will be way to high for a comfortable cheek weld and you will need to do something about it’s short length of pull

Hey, I wonder anyone has trouble placing the EOTech 3x magnifier on the rail? Even 3x magnifier at its loosest position. I just can't place it on. I have tried Eotech exps 3-0 on it with no problem. I feel exps and 3x magnifier has same standard?

I've seen numerous complaints on Reddit regarding the light primer strikes, not just on the APC 223, but also on the APC9.

More testing added
I did something similar and shot a mix of ammo through mine. Luckily no failures. Tried going between some Barnaul 55gr 223 and XM855 62gr, Hornady 556 62 gr and Hornady 556 75gr. All was good. Ran like a Swiss watch.

I’m not sure how I feel about the skeleton stock just yet. ACR stock sounds like it would make this thing perfect.

Has anyone tried the B&T stock w cheek riser ? They were $375 at wolverine. Damn expensive.

I had the B+T "Cheek Riser Folding Stock" and it was a waste of time. The added Cheek-Riser gives you maybe 1/2" of added height - still far too low for magnified optics in rings or a cantilever mount. I promptly returned it and invested in a Bushmaster ACR Buttstock and Adapter from Dan Haga Designs in the US. You can order Haga Designs items through any of the 3rd Party Importers, however the non-site-sponsor "#####s" are set up for direct ordering off of their web-site. Once you mount that ACR stock you will never look back - it is like the thing was made for the B+T APC series! Perfection achieved!!
