My Jan/Feb issue of Front Sight magazine arrived today. Needless to say I was dismayed at the first thing I read on Page 2 in the Members' Mailbag section. Obviously the following is only one side of the story, but regardless where there is smoke there is fire. What a bad showing for Canada and IPSC in Canada.

MD, Staff Show Great Restraint at the Area 8
While participating in the Area 8 Championship earlier this year, an incident occurred which I feel our organization should be aware of.
On one stage the start position was with loaded gun with barrel "flat" on table with "no prop". The first shooter was a Super Squad member shooting an Open gun that day who also happened to have his wife shooting in our squad as well. Upon placing the loaded weapon on the table the RO pointed out that the slide racker on the gun was not allowable because it was acting like a prop. The shooter, obviously upset by this decision, began questioning and explaining VERY professionally to the RO that this starting position couldn't possibly be correct. He felt it would be a safety issue to put his gun down on the opposite side with no slide racker and have to roll it over to pick it up. All of a sudden another shooter from our squad who was a guest in our country for this match from our good neighbor to the north, Canada, races forward and begins to verbally assault, scream at, and attack the RO using language that I will omit from this letter. The RO showed true professionalism as well as restraint in this tense situation.
A call was made to the match director, who arrived promptly, only for himself to be attacked verbally by this arrogant individual continuing to show zero respect and creating an unnecessary scene. The match director corrected the official start position and very calmly but firmly "backed down" the over-angered individual causing the problem. And to boot, throughout the entire day this guy constantly used the "F" word very loudly around the only female shooter in our squad. I can only imagine how she felt hearing this all day.
I don't know if this type of behavior is acceptable up north, but I would certainly hope not. Lastly I would like to point out that the entire staff of the East Huntington Practical Shooters deserves a big hand for an excellent match. I drove seven hours from Connecticut to attend and I surely would do the same again next year.
Sincerely,
Lou Nistico, A-44920
