Bad review for local store

It's 31.25 power pound if you do the math from budget shooter using an 8 lb keg. If your going to ##### about that price maybe you shouldn't be reloading. It's about 35 a pound of you can find it in Alberta. And if it's more than you'll use I'm sure somebody will split it with you.

It comes down to some stores have not had powder for months and the store ain't going to special order 1 pound when there suppliers are trying.to fill back orders. Just another case of someone thinking they deserve what they want when they want.

I'm convinced they just didn't order it. It's a pretty redneck shop, but that's no excuse for bad service. Perhaps they saw my shoulder-length hair and decided I wasn't worth serving, who knows? I still don't have any powder.

My experience with some smaller shops ( certainly not true of all of them) is they hire people who are very good with guns ( which Im thankful for) ... but not always the best with the details of paper work. They often receive so many requests from people that some requests can slip through the cracks - especially if they dont know you well. You would be amazed at how many parts they have sitting in the back room that someone ordered but never returned to pick up/pay for the item and now they are stuck with them. When they say yes they will order a product, it usually isnt a special order but often something they will include on their next order, which might be once every 2 -4 weeks, to reduce shipping costs, to help keep prices reasonable for everyone. Obviously they have not treated everyone poorly or they would no longer be in business. Stores are like people - they all have certain strengths and weaknesses, but if you build a relationship with the people in the store its surprising the lengths they will go to for someone who treats them with respect instead of just a sales clerk.

Its your right to share your frustrating experience, but to tell everyone not to shop there discredits you. Now you are telling us where not to spend our $$ .... and there are many on this board who are proud to be rednecks .... or to hunt with them ...... so you may not have gained much support. ... just another perspective to consider when posting

If I am looking for powder and I and want to purchase it local around Belleville, I go to Can Tire; SFRC (Harrowsmith); Accuracy Plus (Peterborough) and then Chesher's in that order. While Chesher's do carry reloading components, it seems to be a very small selection and asking just feels like a last ditch attempt. Sure they can order stuff in but so can everybody else and I believe they all go through the same distributor so...

To the OP

Since you are new to reloading I will give you the following advice.

If you need 1 buy 2.
order enough to have a 1 year supply at all times.
This means you first order should be enough powder to last you 2 years.
In 1 year place another order.
Shortages due to market fluctuations or political influences are beyond our control.
I ordered a case of .223 bullets in March so that I would have them for next year.
The store called me to tell me they were in the first week of September.
I picked them up and said thank you. I'm now OK for 2014 as far as .223 goes.

Good advice. I am still pretty new to reloading I figured this out quick. Its a joke trying to find powder in Canada but when you do buy all you can other wise you will be waiting 6 months to a year and kick your self. WSS laughed at me last time I asked about powder I thought it was kinda rude I have bought a lot of stuff from them. Most stores in Edmonton now have a powder list with what they have in stock.

I look though the lists on here to see what I can find online first now. I just put in a order at rustywoods I have ordered from them a few times great service.

I try and stock 4-8lbs of each powder for each caliber I order when I start getting low I start searching for more. Very rare anything I need is in stock. Usally back ordered.

To the Op to expect powder in a week is very unrealistic unless you are ordering online and its in stock. I can not speak for the store how ever I have stores that are not even willing to order a $600 gun for me let alone $60 worth of powder.

If they actually made $600 they would, but I'm sure they don't make a massive amount.

powder is hard to get everywhere.
Get it where it,s in stock, because if you order it somewhere, you could be waiting for months.

If you are nomadic like most military types, Arnprior has a decent shop called Als corner store (or country store).

I went in asking for Varget and 2 weeks later I had 2 lbs waiting for me to pick up. I agree in part with the shortage issue, but most powder is not non existant. Just plan ahead.

Or Try Higginsons, I've also had luck with them. Lebarons in Ottawa or in Markham also has a pretty regular stock.

There's a ton of guys here who have taken offense to my calling out a local shop. Perhaps I oughtn't to have asked the rest of you not to shop there, but I simply have not had good experiences there. I was simply sharing that with the greater community. There's a plethora of these sorts of posts on this site, I did not feel I was unjustified in posting another.

I did not mean to offend by my use of the word "redneck." My apologies if some of you felt slighted. I must point out, however, that there is a cliquey nature to some outdoors shops that I do not care for. I was born and raised rurally and I know well the difference between a true outdoorsman and what I would term a redneck. I think many of you are familiar with this distinction. I have family members and close family friends who are indeed earthy people, but have never once made me feel an outsider. Many outdoors shops have made me feel this way. This, to me, is not acceptable business practice.

I also appreciate all the suggestions for other shops.

FYI, Rusty Wood Trading, a CGN member business contacted me and provided me with what I was looking for. I'd like to publicly thank them.

And NOW I agree whole heartily with the above statement

I don't understand everyone defending the store. I feel if they were honest and just said" need more to order" it would have been ok. Even though I have dealt with a company that seems to think it is ok to tell you one thing and do another . I won't bash them, just wont recommend them.

I don't think ANY of this type of posting should be on here, unless the party being defamed is given equal opportunity to respond.
There are two sides to every story.
It would be like going to a trial, where the jury would be asked to decide the case after only the prosecution had been heard and before the defence said anything.
In most cases it's a personality clash and the problem one person had, may not apply at all to the next person.
I'm just waiting until some firm which has been verbally assaulted on here, a public forum, launches a law suit against the poster of the rant, for defamation.

I entirely disagree. I wasn't defaming anyone. In today's market there is no room for poor service. I've worked in hospitality and customer service for many years. I know the importance of honesty and good service to ALL customers. If a shop, restaurant, hotel, etc. gives me bad service I am within my rights to say so. You're free to choose if you wish to visit that business. In no way is a bad review libelous or actionable. There are many shops and services websites where clientele are able to voice their opinions about poor service. This is perfectly legal. If a business is concerned about his/her reputation, then it's in his/her best interest to keep up to date on such places. The marketplace is global nowadays, you can't afford to give poor service to anyone.

Kirk1701, I am the the one that ordered the imr powder for you. I did miss ordering your powder the first time and I apologized to you for the foul up. That same day I did order the powder for you from our supplier (bowmac) on their online ordering system. The powder was said to be in stock. For reasons out of my control they did not ship it that week. Please don't bash us and make false accusations on here. Also I don't appreciate being called a redneck. If you would like to deal with this in a professional matter please give me a call at the store 613 966-8080 and ask for Kyle.

I don't think that's going to be necessary. This isn't the first time I've had issues with orders from that shop. I didn't make any false accusations. I simply expressed my opinion. I believe I clarified that. Nor did I bash anyone. I simply expressed my dissatisfaction, as many do on this site. My words were influenced by emotion, but we've all been guilty of that. You're welcome to say my opinions are unjustified—that's you're right. I don't feel a need to pay custom at your business any longer.
