Bad turkey hunting.

We go to a property north of Orangeville and have harvested 5 birds so far between 6 guys.... We havent been skunked on a day so far, but we aare going up today so we will see what happens....

Ah yes, turkey huntng. You get up in the middle of the night to stumble around in the dark, putting your eye out with sharp sticks, to sit on the cold damp ground until it is daylight, when the black flies begin to feast upon your blood. And by now your butt is so cramped you think you have been violated by a troop of baboons, you are just about crazy from the flies in your ears, up your nose, down your neck etc etc, but you can't move for fear of spooking the bird that probably isn't there anyway. All the while you are attempting to outsmart a critter with a brain the size of a pea, and HE usually wins the battle of wits. Yep, turkey hunting season is here for sure.

The crappies were biting yesterday..............on my jigs, and not in my ears like the black flies. :D

And it is a windy rainy day here in Kingston at 0430, not a particularly good day for turkeys OR crappies. I think I hear my bed calling me back to it........:D

Maybe I'll just sleep in tomorrow instead LOL :D

Was out hunting our property in Dunnville area 89B this weekend near Cayuga. Turkey were no where to be seen or heard. Saw deer everyday, if only they were in season. They are usually grazing in the fields during the day except for this month.

Was out this morning turkeys everywhere, heard a least 12+ gobblers all around me saw 2 of them ...... shot at one of them......I somehow didn't come home with one :kickInTheNuts:! Yesterday turkeys everywhere.......some jerk who hunts the neighboring property and does not have permission to hunt this property shot a tom in front of me....literally acroos the field from me and showered me with pellets.....NOT HAPPY. The day before that hens only within range. Area 67.

Things are ROCKIN' here in 65! Birds everywhere! I had 10 fly down in front of me on Thursday morning. (Too far to shoot)

2 BIG Toms, 5 hens and 3 jakes.

A hen came so close, she almost stepped on my gun barrel.

The 3 jakes came within 25 yards of me at one point, and I passed them up because of my personal greediness. (I wanted one of the toms)

Closest I got was abouy 75 yards. Bummer. Put 6 hours into these birds, and I should have just dumped a jake and heated up the fryer! Oh well, a bad day in the field is still better than a good day at the office!

OK, OK, I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning.........:dancingbanana:

Plan to leave the house around 8 or so, should be set up by 9:30ish, watch for a bit, have a little snooze, watch for a bit, check out the inside of those eyelids to make sure they are OK, shoot a forty pound gobbler with eight twelve-inch beards and spurs longer than dueling swords, wake up, watch some more..................

And the black flies have definitely started swarming here, when we got out of the wind (on the lake) we were inhaling the little beggars.......:runaway:

Toms are all henned up in the area's I hunt . Every time I get close to one the hens lead him off. Frustrating! Lots of birds around, they seem to have Wintered well in 63A & 64. Doug, your turkey fantasies make me laugh . Your right about the bugs, we need a hard frost to take care of them for a while. :D

Might as well put my pics in this thread instead of starting another one, already explained the hunt on here anyways. He came in at 22lbs, 22lbs, 1.125' spurs, 8" beard and was tasty. WMU 65!

Nice looking bird phish. The gobble sounds around the farm here are starting to pick up now. Ground cover getting thicker. I still say the winter was harsh for the birds, and knocked the population down. My wife spotted a big coyote today, right where i set up normally. Lots of days left in the month.

try picking a fight with the hens, lots of aggressive cutting, once they answer repeat everything, they'll get pissed off and come in to take a hen decoy on
