I drove out to my favorite old hunting spot this afternoon, parked and started walking north into a light breeze. I got about 100 yds and thought, "Hmm, this is just too cold for an old geezer (I tuned 63 today) and went back to the truck. It was -17 according to the truck thermometer. So I just "truck hunted" for the rest of the afternoon. YES - I TRUCK HUNTED!! I just putted around on the trails in the pasture and enjoyed the scenery.

At a little grade across a draw, I came across running water! In the 40 some years I've hunted out here, I had never seen water running there this late in the year. Here's a couple of pics:

** This thread need not develop into a "holier than thou I don't truck hunt" smear campaign.**

Funny...it was +16 C here today and pouring rain. Couldn't be too much fun for the muzzleloader guys who are out this week. ;)

PS. Happy Birthday ye ole Geezer. :p

a fellow should be guaranteed a deer on his birthday eh?
Happy Birthday.
In a few weeks, the bow hunt will be over here, so I'd be out there, regardless, teeth chattering so loud nothing would come near me, but I'd be there.
Better luck next hunt.

Nothing wrong with idling around pasture trails looking for deer. Very common in Saskatchewan due to our grid road system, and serves to keep the deer away from the grid roads and off the bumper of my truck.

tee heeee :D truck hunting old fart :D

(I do it all the time when its cold  )

truck hunt till it warms up a bit, about 10:30
then get out on the quad, come back for a warm lunch,
hunt a bit more till I get cold then truck hunt till last light :D

Ah then we got a snow squall and couldn't see more than 20 feet on the 401.

Worked out Ok for me though. Shot a buck at last light. No bruiser compared to yours.

As soon as that cold snap hit southern Alberta a couple weeks ago, the WT rut was on hard. 2 of us managed both our bucks and a big doe in a day at -25C. As long as we kept walking, we stayed warm. I love hunting in super cold weather.
