Well had it out today got it tuned not bad now I have never owned a double rifle before and I think it regulated not bad the best was shot with 405gr cast bullets I tried some 350 gr jacketed bullets but the pattern opened up alot the jack screw did work and after some playing around got it figured out the load was 42grs of 3031 and a 405 cast bullet . it has a cut rifled barrel so handled the cast bullets fine I will play with some black powder next time. The triggers need a bit of polish as they had alot of creep I'm sure it will do better will try different loads and powders and see if I can get them closer the target was shot at 100YRDS a 4 shot group 2 with the right and 2 with the left barrel.What do you think

Very interesting where did you get the rifle and for how much?

I'd also recommend H322 for your 45-70 loads I have tried almost every powder available in my 45-70's and find H322 is the best all round powder and the only one I will use now.

What load data is this rifle designed to handle Trapdoor/Marlin/Ruger?

Can you take a close up picture of the iron sights and post them?
 
Holy sh*t that price is crazy for a SXS Baikal it is almost twice what I would pay for that rifle...

Don't need to know anything more about this gun... :eek:
 
I paid $1200. tax shipping +scope mount included . I will admit its more than I wanted to pay but its still the most inexpencive double rifle and yes for good reasons . But I have seen my friends expencive 450- 3.75 shoot worse . The gun is only rated for 31000psi so this is 1886 lever action pressures not as high as the marlin or Ruger but a little higher than trap door loads.I bought it to play with as out of curiosity . If you are a hard core Double rifle fan and have been wanting a beautiful double this is not the gun for you it is functional thats all.
 
Nifty find. And looks like it has a lot of potential. Let us know how things go as you get the bugs out.


It seems like a lot of money for a gun thats not likely to be a real tackdriver but thats a heck of a good deal for a double. Take a look at the Tradeex site (or anywhere else) for a bit of prespective.

Well I suppose it's all in the eyes of the beholder. I think it's extremely attractive and without the scope it would be pushing beautiful.

and light .45-70 loads are as much fun to shoot as anything you can imagine. My only complaint is that a lot of precious lead leaves the barrel with every shot.

Didn't say I didn't like the rifle and if it wasn't so pricey for what you get I would be totally into getting one... I would cut the barrels down to 18 1/2" to 20" though would make a great bush gun...

The rifle is surprisingly short as is. About the same as a 18" barreled bolt gun. Cutting the barrels on that sucker would be WAY more trouble then it would be worth, IMO.

If the scope must stay, i think you should at least look into some black rings. Those stainless ones are just atrocious on that rifle.

Your gun though, so my opinion is worth what you paid for it.:p


Also interested to know what kind of pressure that puppy was designed to tolerate. With No. 1 level loads, that could be a true usable african double at 1/10th the cost.
 
Very interesting. Your barrels print the same as those on my 30.06 double. 4-5" difference in elevation between the barrels with the right one high and the left low. Almost as though they are meant to be that way.

Where did you buy it?

Thanks( investment guy) Bulls-Eye the stainless rings are all I had laying around the only others I have laying around were a High set of weaver grand slams eventually they may get changed but will do for now .
 
I think that is a great group for a double rifle, if it were mine, I would be torn between a scope and the iron sights.
