Anyone here had any trouble cycling 3.5" shells in your Baikal?
I have never had any issues until today, of course I haven't shot many either.
My bolt was sticking open using Federal Black Cloud. Sometimes to the point where I had to disassemble it to free the bolt. I am avoiding adjusting my gas system as I have been told many times not to touch it.
I have a buddy who is having similar issues, now my only other theory is maybe the Remington gun oil spray I am using is leaving the gun too dry.

Every thing else cycles without a hitch, I haven't tried any other 3.5" shells lately to see if there is a difference.

On a side note... DAMN! 3.5" of Federal Black Cloud #4 sure kills birds!! I have killed geese at ranges I would never imagine even tconsidering with any other shell, even lead!

I've heard of that issue before and I sold my MP-153 before it ever happened to me so I can't offer a solid answer. But I do know your description sounds similar to a bound up recoil spring. If so, you may need that spring replaced and the gas nut adjusted towards heavier loads when shooting duck/goose/turkey loads. The website "shotgunworld" may have better suggestions for you.

Sounds like your return spring is jamming so you will have to adjust your gas adj.Mark were its at with a paint pen then move it in 1/4 turns plus i would flip the retrurn spring.I had to do that with mine nuthin worse then havin ti strip a gun in the blind lol.

Hmmm... Maybe these Blackcloud shells are REALLY REALLY HOT??? This morning, my brother & I were hunting with another guy who was using Blackcloud #2's & BB's, & they were much LOUDER than our Winchester Xpert 1550 fps #4's...

How far is your MP 153 throwing the shotgun hulls? My brother uses a 24 inch MP 153 & has had ZERO issues with it & the Xpert ammo... BUT, it does throw the shotgun hull 10 or 15 feet!!! It might be that the action recoils REALLY hard with the Blackcloud & needs to be turned down. (The gun is clean right??? Just asking...)

Cheers
Jay
P.S. I just bought a brand new 26 inch barreled MP 153 from Dante's in Montreal, so I am interested in the replies to this thread & the resolution to the problem!

My MP-153 never had a problem with the 3.5" shells. Never fired black cloud through it though. The only federal 3.5" load I fired was a turkey load. I've elected to stick to 3" shells from now on. The shells would be ejected really far when shootingthe 3.5" shells. I have no idea if its an issue, but IIRC federal shells are a bit longer than others.

Set it to magnum loads. The only issue I have had with mine is my vent-rib was sideways but baikal is sending a replacement gun.

Also work the bolt back and forth a few hundred times by hand with oiling in between ever so often. Use the wet oil don't use the new dri-lube from remington. Also if it is a new gun degrease it with action cleaner to get all the factory thick grease out of the mechanisms

I truly think it is the oil, I didn't have issues like this last year, same ammo. I think I had one failure last season with it. I may just bring two guns next time to be safe, but Rem Oil sounds like the culprit.

No factory grease left on this thing, been shooting it 3 years now. My only other issues with this was shooting target loads at -25 in a snow storm with ice forming in the action. It still worked fine as a single shot. But again I thinki oil was teh culprit, it was possibly over oiled and frozen.

I thought it was a new gun. Sorry. The first few days of goose hunting I used 3.5" BBB BLKCLD and I never had any problems. Used those along with 3" BB WinX. My gun was brand new at the time.

Never had an issue with mine I clean then lubricate the gas piston and bolt with a little WD_40

Well, we'll see, I cleaned it with agood Penetrating oil (Suzuki brand from my Mechanic)
I appled some break free as well and wiped it all down.
Now I notice my gas adjustment seems to be seized, hopefully it will free up with the P-oil... BUT I never had an issue before with that setting so it shouldn't matter.

A number of things came to mind when I saw your original post:

1. The ammo itself could be the culprit. I have heard the same strory from people who used that amm.

2. Most plausible reason for your issue is that there is too much gas going towards your action. Try again with the same ammo after adjusting the gas valve towards heavy loads.

3. Your spring (around the magazine) may be deformed. Have a good look at it. Always a good idea to have a replacement spring. Maybe you should order one from the importer.

Ok, so I got the gas adjustment freed (that was fun) and turned it one full turn, seems to cycle great BUT kicks the #### out of me. Oh well, I won't notice that at all when teh geese are coming in with the wings locked up and feet dangling.

Hey guys my MP 153 have acted like this with every type of ammo i've tried from cheap to quite expensive 3 1/2 inchers. From every manufacturer I can get my hands on. It would fire the first shell and the second would rise up from the mag but the bolt would leave it hangin there right at the chambers edge. I would have to push the bolt forward by hand. So I adjusted the gas nut toward haevy loads thinkin that too much gas was forcing the bolt back too hard but now when i fire the first shot the second shell comes from the mag but the carrier wont even bring it up to the chamber. It just sits on top of the carrier. I'm really hoping to get this thing workin well. Any ideas would be great as there are more of us out here with some funky issues with this gun. Could this be a case of you get what you pay for, not sure as I know more than one person who has a flawless MP 153. Just wish mine was flawless also.

They are great guns, mine is working great now.
Is this with every time you use it? or is it occasional? I have a young buddy with a similar issue and I haven't looked at it yet, I think it is just a cleaning issue with him.
One common thing that happens, upon reassembly, make sure the collar on th emag tube is on right. If not the spring doesn't have room and will bind up.

What is your cleaning procedure?
