Looking through the regs I have not found anything on this. Just that it is unlawful to bait certain predators and birds.
Is it illegal to bait deer in BC?
I am not looking for an answer based on morals or feelings. Just law please.
Thanks

In BC the only big game animals that you are not allowed to bait are grizzly and black bear.

True.

Oddly, it seems few BCers know this. When I first moved here, several people told me "no baiting allowed." After reading the regs thoroughly, I realized they were wrong.

I haven't done it yet, but I certainly might in the future.

Anyone know what mulie bucks find irresistible (other than mulie does) ?

Grizzly and Black bear no but dear, moose no problem. Try some of baits sold at hunting stores they work with some "smell baits". Crashed apples work but you will likely attract bears. One think that really works but you need time for it to start working are blocks of salt that people use for cattle

As mentioned by someone who wear pink the two Big Game animals being Blk Bear and Grizzly Bears = NO BAIT !!!
Migratory Game Birds = NO BAIT as well.
Buddy has a cabin with several salt licks in strategic placements, but come ''Deer Season'' the deer change up their licking habits.
They come earlier in the morning and arrive later in the evening (game cam. shows this)

The salt licks are well used before the season and after we have left the property.
There was a hole dug and eaten 4 foot radius and two feet deep... we place rocks in the hole and cover it with dirt and place fresh licks on the last trip of the season.
Blue or Brown licks doesnt matter they enjoy them all the same... apples go un-noticed.
Wheat or Barley might be a different story though or corn for that matter.

Baiting has never been really popular in BC, although guys often put salt out for trail cameras.

Outfitters are probably the most prolific "baiters" in BC, as some of them create and maintain salt licks for years, in an effort to keep the moose, elk and sheep around for clients to shoot. Many a salt block has dropped from bushplanes!

Does anyone have written proof baiting/feeding deer/moose is legal?

I am just being very cautious

They don't often tell you what is allowed, they tell you what is not.

No prohibition against it, it's allowed.

Too much good food around to be of a lot of use, unless you are willing to play the long game, and establish mineral lick locations that become part of the local ecology. And be willing to have others find same and hunt over them.

Yeah I just got passed through 4 people when I called in regarding it and the CO at the end of the line basically said the same thing.

A good deer call is what you need
Deer calls work the best in late October early November and way more fun
I use a home made deer call out of a pice of wood and a Elastic band

I asked this to a CO years ago, and his answer was it is allowed because it doesnt work very well...
LOL

lol. CO doesnt have much experience then. I have salt licks which I dont even have to maintain anymore and the deer still use them. I regularly salted a hardwood stump for about 5 years and its now saturated. I havent salted it for 2 years now and it is still used often.

I dont actually hunt the stump itself, its there simply to keep the animal in the area.
