So I was out yesterday evening looking for a 1-2 yr old doe for the freezer (I like to get a young one for the freezer before I leave for my "official" deer/bear rifle hunt).....and I got to my selected place and literally didn't have time to take off my pack when a button buck and a small doe step out 15 yards from me. I quickly sized them up and decided to take the buck. Heres the funny part: I was kneeling beside some little birch trees when I shot, and the arrow glanced off a tiny branch, The arrow went dead-center into the spine and the deer dropped like I hit it wih an ultramag. After 30-some deer, my first "bang-flop" with a bow.....too cool.

I LOVE it when there's no tracking involved :D

A guy my uncle used to hunt with had a similar thing happen, doe and a yearling walking, he let the arrow fly, yearling put its head up at the sound and got it right in the head.

So you made a crappy shot and got lucky. Go to the range.

---> Pretty friggin hard to find a range with little birch tree's to practice shooting thru :D

"I was kneeling beside some little birch trees when I shot, and the arrow glanced off a tiny branch, "

So anyway, what's it like in that perfect little world YOU live in PGKris

Yeah.....stuff like that NEVER happens when you are in the bush. Your right...the 300+ shots I take a week just arent enough....I need to practice more .

I don't really expect you to understand......But based on your (insightfull) comment, I'd suspect your biggest concerns when bowhunting are A: "Do I see any headlights coming down the road?" And B: "Will the tips of the bow-limbs smack the window frame if I shoot from in here?"

To everyone else who has actually bow-hunted~Thanks for the comments, lets here about some more bow instant drops. :50cal:

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

Bow hunting is a challenge to say the least. This is my first year bow hunting and I'm having a tough go at it. Season isn't over yet tho!

Congrats on your deer man! Wish there were pics!

I had one bang-flop with a bow. I shot a doe from a downward angle from a treestand. The arrow went in beside the spine but squarely hit a big rib near its junction with the spine. The deer dropped on the spot and dies within seconds.

Now that right there was friggen funny, I don't care who you are. LOL:D

It is amazing how many other factors come into play when using a bow in the bush compared to the range.lots of people who have not done it don't reilize how hard bow hunting is and those people are the first to call you on a bad shot. Those things happen any how and at least you were blessed with a kill shot instead of a wounded deer.congrads.

I was reading this thread just before lunch when the phone rang, my Dad calling to tell me there was a nice spike feeding under the fruit trees, so I drove up to his place. I haven't pulled the string back on my bow for ten years, well at quarter after twelve I was at full draw at twelve yards, hit high but took the spine and down he went like a ton of bricks. My first bang flop with a bow and my first archery buck in ten years..... I am once again hooked on the archery side of things. :D:D:D

Buddy I've spent enough time in the bush with abow in my hand to know that there's lots of opportunites to take game in brush-free shooting lanes, so when you do lose one because you made a bad call, DON'T post the story, and I won't have to say 'I told you so'
300 arrows a week  You must be a master!! I only shoot 300 a day :runaway: WOW!
