Bang for buck?

For your $800 you could get a SAM Military 1911 .45 and a Lee Deluxe 4 hole Turret Press with Dies and have enough left over to buy 100 rounds of ammo to shoot and pick up the cases which will be all over the place.:D If you get into casting your own bullets the cost per round (not including labour) is about the same as .22LR.

yes i have noticed SAM's omn the wolverine website what im curious is hows the quality, and parts compatibility?

Quality and parts compatibility are both there. As with most 1911s and I'm sure all other guns as well, a lot if not most parts aren't "drop-in" but usually require a little bit of smithing to make everything fit and function perfect. I've put about 2000-3000 rounds through my 9mm SAM 1911 Government and haven't had a single problem. Put a new hammer, sear, sear spring, trigger, grips, beavertail, slide lock, mag release, and barrel bushing on mine just to make it look different than most (blued gun with all shiney silver accent parts and white grips). All parts fit in excellent and the gun looks, feels, and is nicer to shoot how it is now than the Kimber I rented not too long ago. For the money, you can't go wrong!

If you are on budget, I highly recomend you a 9mm.

Now for the gun, Glock are very good pistols, but a S&W range kit at 679$ is hard to beat. If you want the most bang for you bucks, I think you got it....

Glock 17 is your best bet, you can't beat the reliability, so no need for a broken parts budget, and cheapest ammo unless you go to .22.

If you are LEO, lawyer, doctor or almost any other professional, you should contact Police Ordnance to inquire about the IOP program where most professionals can get a significant discount on Glock firearms brand new.

I prefer Glocks for reliability and easy maintnance, but I can say that a S&W range kit is a better bang for your bucks....

I have very expensives firearms. All theses firearms are excellent but are not necessary the best bang for your bucks. A nightforce Scope at 2000$ is excellent but not the best bang for your buck.

I have no problem with the S&W range kit, just the name vs the recommendation was interesting.

I still would suggest the Glock over the S&W, but that's more personal preference. In shooting IPSC I have seen several M&P's break, never a Glock yet.
