Banning Employees from wearing Poppies........

There is not to many things that surprise me anymore when it comes to this planet... but a company literally banning their employees from wearing Poppies because , "It's a political statement" !?!?!?

I am shaking my head this morning my friends .... How have things gone so wrong??

Article below from CBC....

Symbol of remembrance does not conform to dress code, company says

Whole Foods Market store in Ottawa on Thursday. The company has confirmed to CBC that, under a new uniform code, employees are not allowed to wear poppies.

Less than a week before millions of Canadians are set to pay their respects to veterans by wearing a poppy, a national grocery store chain has banned its employees from wearing the symbol of remembrance while on the job.

U.S.-based Whole Foods Market says poppies aren't allowed under its recently updated uniform policy, which affects employees at its 14 locations across Canada.

But the company won't say why.

An employee of the Whole Foods in Ottawa says she was told by a supervisor that wearing the poppy would be seen as "supporting a cause."

"I was basically told … if they allowed this one particular cause, then it would open up the door so that they would have to allow or consider allowing other causes," said the employee. CBC News has agreed not to name her as she is concerned about reprisals at her job.

"I was in shock actually. I was appalled. I couldn't believe it."

An employment lawyer says the poppy could be considered a display of a political belief and thus not fall under Ontario's Human Rights Code, leaving it up to employers to decide whether to allow employees to wear one. (CBC)
She said in the past few years, she's been able to wear a poppy — a symbol of remembrance that hearkens back to the First World War — while on the job. But this year was different.

The Whole Foods uniform consists of an apron, coat or vest, a hat and name badge.

A poppy does not comply with that policy, the company confirmed, but did not provide a reason why.

The first poppies were distributed in Canada in 1921. The donations they bring in are an important source of revenue for the Royal Canadian Legion that goes toward helping ex-servicemen and women buy food, and obtain shelter and medical attention.

But legion branches across Canada have been struggling from loss of revenue due to the pandemic and some have expressed fears this year's poppy campaign will bring in significantly fewer donations.

"We are thankful for the many partners and retailers like Whole Foods who contribute in various ways to the National Poppy Campaign," said Danny Martin, director of corporate services at the legion's national headquarters, in a statement.

"While retailers must set their own corporate policies, unless there are safety concerns we do encourage wearing poppies at all times as a show of respect for our Fallen, and as a symbol that helps educate Canadians about the sacrifices of our Veterans."

An Ottawa employee said workers were allowed to wear the symbol in previous years and questions why they are not given the choice this year.
Wearing a poppy could be considered a display of a political belief, according to employment lawyer Alex Lucifero with the firm Samfiru Tumarkin, and thus, would not be protected under the Human Rights Code in Ontario.

However, human rights codes in other provinces may be different, he says.

Lucifero says Whole Foods might have valid health and safety reasons for not allowing employees to wear a poppy, because the poppies "are pins, with needles, there might be a health and safety risk there."

But, he added, it is "generally speaking, not good PR for an employer to take a position like this."

Whole Foods, which is owned by Amazon, says it is supporting the legion by donating more than $8,000 to the poppy campaign. It also said employees at each of its stores will observe the traditional moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

But the Ottawa employee doesn't feel that's enough.

"We're talking about people who have sacrificed their lives and families, people who have lost you know, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters … People have died for our country to keep it safe and to keep it free and this is the one time of year we get to honour them and say 'Thank you. Thank you for everything you have done,'" she said.

"I can't believe that anybody is telling me that I'm not allowed to do that, that I'm not allowed to do this one simple, little token of my appreciation, of my thanks."

Never shopped there, but Amazon also needs to hear about how this will affect their business (they own these tools)

Can’t imagine this was a huge issue for them...another case of some “woke” company stepping on its own d1ck. I hardly see anyone in what I imagine to be their demographic wearing poppies anymore anyway so what harm if a couple dozen employees across the country add a poppy to their smock for a few days...

I’d boycott them but it’s an idle threat since I’ve only been in a whole food twice in my life...Will definitely send a curt note to Amazon though.

I quote a news article label attributed to the company as becoming 'WOKE FOODS'

Of course, this is no different than the socialism that ran amuck in Europe from 1933 onward.
Can you imagine how our world would be today if our parents and grandparents didn't stand up to this socialist thought?
Sadly, the fight for freedom has to be fought constantly, because the wolves are out there trying to take down the sheep.

Progressive thought and conformity is slavery to an elite few.

Its 100% political. The food safe angle is bull. Yes the needle pin poppies were not allowed in fresh depts but using a safety pin, magnetic or sticker etc was both allowed and available in other stores I've worked at.

Not that I needed another reason to not shop at whole foods, but fu¢k me... What a bunch of c**ksuckers. God forbid the cause you choose to show people that you support is Veterans.

The ‘woke‘ shall destroy the earth.

There is an irony in how these kinds of twits like to chisel away at society with their deluded perspectives. They cater to a crowd that will do the most ridiculous things and call it progress, but not a one of them would go to war for their nation to ensure such freedoms exist for everyone. To them, they’d consider picketing and protesting some social justice topic to be ‘going to war’, perhaps a few among them would be the real crap-disturbers whole like to protest with spray paint and Molotov cocktails.

Isn’t it ironic that the ‘type‘ is also be the first to press for a disarmed populace, who will then eventually become subjects rather than citizens. The process has repeated count, ess times throughout history, but there is an endless crop of the woke to set it all up for another repeat of oppression.

Wondering if everyone who is putting the effort to make a comment here put that same effort to forward a comment to WF something might actually happen.

#### Amazon and whole foods the people have the power to bankrupt that chain just don’t shop there even if they reverse there decision we all know how they truly feel

So weird that a company ran by woke Dr. Evil would do this. So out of character. Not like he has his eye (the good one) set on world domination or anything. Corporations are you new country brother. I wonder what the poppy will look like to remember the fallen after the Amazon-Google war of 2057?

Wish we had their store in our little town so I could not shop there. I strongly feel I would not be the only one.

We will remember them.

Father of an Afghan veteran.

Isn't banning the poppy, and deliberately mis-characterizing a 100 year old cultural tradition as a political statement, a political statement?

I mean I know not too many military pensioners can afford a $9 glass of orange juice, so the business loss here might not be that great, but I suspect that they will back away from this before next Wednesday...

They are getting destroyed on Twitter. Some Karen tried to say banning poppies makes sense in case someone loses a pin in the vegetable aisle. She is also getting destroyed.
