wow i thought only my friends sighted in their rifles like that .
 
Well, I got a chance to try the 30 cal 175 LRX in my Norma Mag today.
Imagine my dismay to find them shooting about 2" lower and to the right of my 180 TTSX load.
However, they shoot OK. I shot two groups with them at 230 yards [as far as we have at the club right now]
The groups measured 1.3" and .46"
However, The 180 TTSX groups measured .29" and .21" @ 230 yds. [One ragged hole, each group]
Think I'll just stay with the 180 TTSX, It's got Elk and Moose written all over it. LOL

It is a Bill Leeper built rifle [last winter] as follows:
Remington 700 Action, trued and lapped.
McGowan 1-10" twist medium sporter barrel, Chrome-moly, 26" Chambered in 308 Norma Magnum.
Trigger tuned to a crisp 2¾ lb.
Carefully bedded into a Remington Custom Shop Fiddleback Maple stock in the BDL pattern.
Remington bottom metal.
Rifle is blued deep glossy blue.
It now wears a Leupold 3.5x10 B&C in Gun metal grey.
Limbsaver recoil pad.
Load is: Norma case, 180 Barnes TTSX, Old CIL 8½M primer, 74.0 grains of IMR 7828, chronys at 3124 avg for 5 at 15 feet.
If all goes according to plan, It will have a moose to it's credit before Aug 20.

That is one fine rifle! You don't see too many maple stocks these days - did you find it seperately, or was it one a rifle when you bought it? Some of the wood that comes out of Remington's Custom Shop is quite nice.

This one was on a C Grade 700:

1899; That is very nice wood, indeed. I have a 700 Classic that has a very heavily figured stock as well.
This maple stock is originally off a limited run of anniversary 30-06 [2000 total] rifles made in 1993. I bought the rifle with a bulged barrel.

If anyone is interested in the LRX in the 265gn .338 series, I am shooting a 110BA and am using H4831SC@86.0gn and loading them .100 off the lands for a COAL of 3.661.

I have no velocity data because all 3 of my shots came up as errors on the chrony. Primers are slightly craterd, bolt lift is not excessive.

In the field, when hunting, most folks can't shoot 2 MOA due to heavy breathing, poor rest or lack thereof, this translates to alot of wounded animals at long range regardless of the bullet used. Shooting in the field while sitting on a rock pile is not the same as shooting from the bench in a relaxed atmosphere.
Marketing bullets and hyping them for this purpose only encourages poor hunting techniques and when coupled with unrealistic TV shows, I wonder how many wounded animals will suffer this fall?

Well said Ben, lots of yahoos are shooting game at unrealistic distances b/c they have super magnums high BC bullets and no personal limits on their own capabilities. In some places with perfect tracking conditions (on snow) one only need to track the previously injured game to fill the tag.

There is a huge difference between "hunters" and "shooters" and they are often mutually exclusive. One of the maintenance guys at work last week came to my office because he needed to know if there were any sales on ammo anywhere. Why?? Because he needed to buy another box of .308 as he only had 6 rounds left from the box he bought in 2007 and out of which he had shot 5 deer, 2 moose and 3 black bear.

He goes thru .22LR by the brick though.

"Hunter" or "shooter"??? Run of the mill or not???

There is nothing wrong with wanting a bullet with higher BC. The tsx BC wasn't very good so they put a tip on to make it better. The LRX and TTSX are the same thing. Just a different box. For comparison the .277 130gr partition, which nobody considers a "sniper" bullet has a higher BC than the 130gr ttsx. And of course so do the accubond and btip. Labeling someone as irresponsible because they want a barnes bullet with higher BC is silly. Nobody says anything when people shoot bullets with higher BC. Yes the packaging name is stupid but just buy the ttsx then if the name really bothers you that much.
