HELP!!!

Ok, i just spent the last 2 days drooling over all the Mk18's on the AR15.com clone rifle thread and I saw the photos from the 'clone shoot' and I saw a whole lot of airsoft furniture on there. Many of the Mk18's there had silencers attached to them and while I know that some states do allow suppressors I know that not all states do. I wondered if anyone out there was using air soft silencers on real AR's.....I would think this would have crossed many tacti-cool type guys. So I searched the world wide web/youtube for any videos, write-ups or anything i could find that was an actual practical test based data and found nothing. Either everyone has been dis-swayed by all the nay-sayers online who are just giving their opinions yet have not tried to actual test the theory, or those that did 'test' it perhaps didn't live to tell the tale? IDK, surely there must have been someone out there brave/stupid enough to have tested this? I want to know/see what actually happens if you stick a silencer made for an airsoft rifle on any thing bigger than a .22cal. I have seen alot of asseneign videos and how-tos' of people attaching all types of DIY silencers to thier AR's and other rifles and pistols from bottles, flashlight housings, pipes, PVC pipes etc and those seem to be fine why ca i not find anything where an airsoft can was tested?

I've seen few fake cans for sale at Target sports, I don't remember the price, but they looked nice.. Not Airsoft.. They were the once that you hook on to A2 bird cage flash hider without removing it.

But the guy at the counter said that they are for display purposes, and shouldn't be shot through..

Give them a call.

All the Airsoft "silencers" are, are an enlarged can with threaded end pieces and rings of foam inside. A few shots with hot lead and the foam would be gone then all you have is a large echo chamber. A real silencer has baffled metal chambers to slow gases to lessen the sound. There's a lot more to the mechanics but you get the idea. All the Airsoft ones are good for are threading on backwards to look like a silencer on a short barrel.

Foam removed, and with no intent for sound dampening, would it be safe to shoot through an airsoft can? I cant find any actual test done or any real data other than opinions and speculations surly ther must have been someone brave/dumb enough to have tried this?

Depends on the caliber. An aluminum can would certainly survive 22 Rimfire and even all the way up to 45 ACP. As to the legality of doing this, I would suggest that your intention is irrelevant because even an empty tube with an enclosing front cap would produce a surprising level of sound reduction. Certainly enough to get it classed as a prohib device.

FWIW I have sound tested an empty can on a couple of different guns. It is depressing how good this can be.

okay guys so i got my ar 15 ( 14.5 inch carbine length gas system) and i measured my barrel, it is 5 and 1/4 inch from the gas block to the muzzel device, anyone has anyone idea where to find a barrel shroud that would work ?

I'd suggest calling Val at E&L manufacturing - he has made shrouds for a lot of us with JR Carbines, ships to Canada, good workmanship, and fair pricing.
