Just wondering if I should get a rail or set of weaver bases for the remmy I'm thinking of a rail with extra high rings, and the scope I'm trying for around 200 if I can

I would get 2 piece bases unless I was certain that the one piece rail wasnt going to interfere with ejecting those fat cases.... I dont think you need a rail unless you wanted to gain elevation with a .338 (but thats up to you of course)...

You may run into a few issues here...

As some have said, $200 won't get you too far in optics - especially if you want to hit what you can't see.

If you go with a two piece base and ring combo, you may have limited eye relief due to your long action. A better quality scope will aid in this.

If, for budget reasons, you need to keep the scope at $200...

1. Buy Leupold or Burris dovetail bases. Then buy their rings and make sure the front ring is an extension base ring. You will only need medium height if running a 40mm objective.

2. On the more pocket friendly front, buy Weaver bases and make sure the front base is an extension base. Weaver has a chart on their website to guide you. Then, as said earlier, buy Weaver steel rings - again, medium height will do.

The extension bases are very important in this case. They will help bring the scope back and offer the precious eye relief needed at heaver magnification.

I would be leery of a Vortex Crossfire II. They say it can handle the recoil; however, they are not really well suited for a thumper such as yours.
