Hi, all

I snagged a Bassett SM14/M1A Scope Mount on ebay for a very reasonable price. Can anyone provide me with the dimensions of the "Individual Torque Tool"? Center of bolt to center of string hole will do. Also, I assume low scope rings are in order? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If the torque tool it lost then I would suggest getting a small torque wrench and using that. I'm sure you could find other uses for it was well.

Using my crappy calipers (possibly up to +/- 0.5 mm?), I get the distance between the two furthest inside surfaces @ 6.5 cm. The distance between the two closest inside surfaces:4.85 cm. So i guess that makes the distance center to center 5.675 cm.

Other dimensions:

Longer width of the rectangular bolt hole: 12 mm
Diameter of the string hole: 6 mm

There is under 1 mm of lateral movement between the bolt head and the squrare socket hole.

In the photo the left outside edges of the ruler and the tool are lined up.

NOTE: Bassett will send you one of these for 10$ (+S&H etc...)

Thanks for the info John. Exactly what I was after. Is the bolt not a standard hex?

Just an update guys... I shot Bassett an e-mail and yes, they DO ship to Canada... if you're not doing Pay Pal or CC, there's a seperate set of instructions for sending money. They even have a shipping calculator in US dollars.

Psss many of us have a Bassett mount that came directly from them. Your not supposed to tell people that so we can mark up the mounts 150%!

Unless Romi emails me to tell me otherwise one day .... I got the first M1913 railed mount in Canada from them! :dancingbanana:

Yeah not so much a secret, I ordered mine direct also.

On their standard mount, the rings do go on a 45 deg. angle.

What secret? You guys lost me.

Do you like your Bassett mount? This will be my 4th attempt at finding something that suites me.

Not of mine but here are the ones in the flier Romi sent out for the new M1913 Railed mount.

When I decide on the scope and all I will post pictures of my rifle with the mount. :)

Kinda looks like the Leaper or B-square model but will it hold its zero, that's the real question??

Yes cause its NOT a dovetail mating on the mount but a dowel pin mating. The Pin will ALWAYS settle in the dovetail groves the same way unlike a undersized mating dovetail.

I think I'd be inclined to recheck the torque on the screw frequently. The weight of the rifle on the wrench is a clever field method. I like the simple design of the two pieces of hardened steel round dowel that owing to the round shape will self centre in the grooves in the receiver. The hardened dowel should do the work, allowing the rest of the mount to be lighter aluminum. Personally, I think the 3 point mount would be more resistant to bumps in the field, but the ability to remove and return to zero is a great feature of the Basset.
