Bassett SM14/M1A Scope Mount

I just got my Bassett mount in the mail a couple of days ago. So far she looks like a winner! Haven't fired any rounds with the mount on, yet. Damn night shifts  .
Anyway, here's what she looks like.

My M-305 is sporting a Falcon Menace 1.5-5x30mm scope with low Accushot rings.

My Basset arrived today. I thing something is amiss. Could someone please post a good close up of the back of the mount? The side that lays against the receiver.

Thanks,

Montey

Thanks for the pics guys! Looks like my ebay mount is missing the horizontal guide rod. It would appear that it was simply glued in place as there is a hard glue like residue in the guide slot. Now to figure out what to use as a replacement. Any suggestions?

I would try emailing basset and see what they have to say.

Bassett didn't respond to my email. I ordered the torque tool and a replacement bolt anyways. Maybe they will respond now. Got to say I like the mount so far, it's clean and simple. Replaced the missing horzontal guide bar with a nail shank of approx. correct diameter. Removed my scope for rifle cleaning and after re-mount found that zero returned (lazer bore sighted only). So far, so good, I think I have found a winner!

Bassett finally responded to my email. A replacement pin will be included with my torque tool and bolt order. They indicated that they preferred me to send the mount back to them to have the pin installed using their special adhesive and offered to repair or replace the mount for it free. I opted to simply have the pin shipped. I hadn't planned on removing the mount very often.

The final word, from Bill Bassett himself!

I appreciate the fact that you are anxious to find "a mount that really works", you have found one, but someone broke it.

There is a lot more to that mount than just a wierd shaped piece of aluminum with two slots cut in it. There are tolerences for widths, depths, lengths, locations, etc., and they all interact. A slot can be "off" in four ways that you might not see.....and there are two slots, that makes eight errors possible just in the slots, and i'm just getting started.

I'll send you replacement bolt, and we'll sell you a torque tool, but believe me replacing your own pins in one of these mounts can get you in more trouble than you would ever believe and waste more time than it would take to send it back to us several times for repair or replacement, and there is NO CHARGE! PLEASE BELIEVE ME, I've been building mounts with this attachment system for 28 years, over 5000 units so far, and I don't want anyone having problems with a product with our name on it. Send it in, I'll turn it around in one day.......again, NO CHARGE!

Thanks...

Yeah, send it in, you'll end up with a factory refurbished mount (that has a nice story) rather than a broken flea bay part with a diy fix.

I don't have a choice; Bill won't send me the pin! He insists on installing it himself. The mount gets shipped to Dripping Springs, Texas tomorrow.

3 weeks to get there, 3 weeks return + 2 weeks in customs. I might see the mount again sometime mid to late Nov. Add to the fact that it took 4 weeks to get the mount in the first place and will cost $10+ to ship to Basset. I might as well have purchased the mount from Bassett to begin with!
