BC 2013 provincial precision rile championship

Hi Longshot. I have been spreading the word electronically. I sent out about 90 pms. I have stalked armoured car guards having coffee at Tim Hortons. I have chased after ERT guys. I have also posted it on several other sites. Can you send me a PM if you can suggest sites where I can post to advertise the match that I may have missed?

I am looking at entering this competition for the first time myself. After reading the equipment rules I see it looks like the max calibre is up to and including 8mm. which looks like .338 LM would not be allowed. Could someone just confirm this for me as due to my certain circumstances have put a .338 in my hands and I am really wanting to get some time at an event like this with it.

Anyone? thanks.

You can shoot a .338 and I believe it will put you in open class. Not to mention that you are probably going to go through 250-300 rds for the weekend. Hope you are a reloader!!

Hello Fatherhood,

.338 lapua is absolutely usable in this event , as a caliber currently used / employed you would not be in open class but in
The regular police/ military class , I have had several inquires re this caliber in the last couple of days , now there is good news and bad news .... First the good ..yes you can shoot this caliber in regular class HOWEVER if the rifle is a custom (non factory) made rifle with a custom break you can not use the break - remove the break you are good to go -300rnds of .338lapua in an un braked rifle over 4 days would generally SUCK!!! ..........factory issued/installed break your golden regardless of caliber(provideed caliber fits into class criteria),accesorie or custom break and shooter must remove break to compete, also to avoid any muzzel blast effecting/harming shooters on the line Competitors useing factory breaked rifles will be positioned together with rifles carefully dressed forward To avoid port discharge incidents

Hello All,

Ok so I have amended the list of limited calibers to read as:-

B) Calibers- currently/readily employed by Military and or Police(Western world /North America )223/5.56, .308/7.62, .300 Winchester magnum,.338 lapua magnum.(.303, 30-06, 8mm Mauser ,7.62x54R 6.5x55, 7.7 Jap- Common #"Vintage"sniper calibers- usable only in original platforms are employable in limited class- in keeping with spirit of the match ) custom rifles or factory rifles -non sniper specific chambered in "vintage" calibers will be regulated to open class - Exceptions to calibers being employed #such as 7.62 x 54r , 8mm Mauser in modern designed and deployed weapon systems ,will be considered,by match director on an individual basis , i.e. Yugoslav m76 in 8mm Mauser or Soviet dragunov in 7.62 x54r#

I hope that covers all possibilities/ eventualities .. Sorry for ambiguity I don't know how I didn't catch that before
Rules will be updated with above definitions in very near future ( Today I hope )

Regards
Ed,

Ah very good idea Ed! I'd love to see some vintage rifles out there! I'd even like to see a vintage class now that I think about it. How cool would that be!??
Anyways Mike and myself should be there again and look forward to seeing yourself and everyone!

Hello longshot,

If we have enough entrants in a "Vintage" class(or some such name ) I am all for it lets say minimum of 10 entrants ?
Gets a new class rolling and like all shooting sports in Canada the numbers decide the future , I look forward to seeing everyone at the match once again new and familiar faces as well

Regards
Ed

There you have it folks. Anyone wanting to shoot a vintage sniper rifle should come out to his match as well! Bust out the #4Ts. Bust out the Mauser 98s! Bust out the Nagants! Whatever you have it will be accommodated! There is no funner weekend even for a new shooter. Come on out and give it a try!!!

So does this mean now that the .338's will be competing against the .308's and .223's? I went to the CISC twice and although different ranges and different crses of fire, the .338's were obviously a huge advantage over the fellas shooting the .308's.

This question has probably been asked before but anyway here goes: The PGW Coyote ( a .308 calibre rifle ) is supplied with a factory muzzle brake - is this particular rifle allowed to be used with the brake attached or does the brake have to be removed ? I ask as last time I used a TRG 22 for which a brake must be purchased separately and so it was clear that the brake could not be employed but given the PGW comes standard issue with a brake does that change matters ?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Just a note to those worried about shooting against a .338L. Don't forget that a LOT of this match involves shooting in positions OTHER than prone. I have shot similar type matches with a Timberwolf and it wasn't easy. Try standing at 100m and a 6 second exposure of a moving target with random timings and the rifle out of the aim. Pretty challenging. ;)
On a static 600m range there is no advantage especially whilst being pounded by a rifle with no muzzle break. Have fun with that. I predict a .308/.223 win by a country mile.

Hello EC,

The .338 lapua were Always able to compete in regular class ,as they are standard issue caliber for many militaries and
Police forces , although they may have a Balistic advantage , they also have there disadvantages , weight, blast ,recoil
And over 4 days of shooting and near 300 rounds ,I don't think it would be such an advantage, feel free to bring
A .338 lapua if you like I won't turn you away. Nor would I turn away a team from CF with a timberwolf

Regards
Ed.
