BC CQB Feb 1st match at Abby now sold out!! Waiting list starts now.

Man I'm feeling the love! I got 3 offers to borrow pistols on the table.
Hopefully I don't have to actually take anyone up on it. I've had my restricted for a year, this event finally pushed me to actually get a pistol. Transfer is awaiting CFO approval, that doesn't normally take a month does it?

It takes what it takes. My last Licence took 6 months and arrived a month and a half after the previous one expired.

Ok after watching the video I have to try this out! Being a fairly new shooter... I've got a decent AR and pistol, what chest rig, sling and holster should I be looking at. I don't want to waste money on crap... Would DS Tactical have what I need or am I ordering form elsewhere? Any advice would be appreciated so I am not "that guy" when I show up. lol

There was a wide variety of gear and set ups last time, if you look at the pictures you should get an idea.

Going to DS is a good idea, you can try stuff on and see what works for you.

I tend to spend a fair chunk of change on kit, but some of it gets used at work and/or on courses related to work. If this is the only shooting discipline you will partake in, you can probably get away with cheaper stuff. YMMV, you are only limited by your budget.

This could be a thread all on it's own. It'll come down to personal preference and how much cash you want to spend.

And yes, go to Dave's for the gear.

Make sure you tell the guys at Dave's that you are shooting the CQB matches in Abby. Always good to let the sponsors know that their good faith in sending along prizes is bringing people into the store. Like Joe said go try a bunch of stuff out and see what feels good.

56 people signed up folks! Not bad for less than a week!

I love the social side of shooting competitions. Think about it there will probably be over 100K in black rifles and probably the same in optics, and then there are pistols, and chest rigs and holsters that will be on the line. Where else will you be able to see and if you ask nice probably get your hands on that much varied gear?

Ah the gear show.

Yeah part of the fun for me is seeing all the different stuff on the line and seeing what guys do with it. Just being around so many like minds is always cool too.

Alright went to Dave's and got set up... Don't know if I've got the right gear but I've got to start somewhere. Credit card took a hit ... Even with a discount on all my stuff. And yes I made sure I said I was there because of them sponsoring the event.

My first pistol is in my possession! Been practising in my garage like a regular GI Joe. Waiting on the LTATT now. Cant wait to actually shoot it now.

Thanks for the info re Dave's ... I need a few gears as this is my first. Be visiting Dave's real soon.

I was there on NYE. They're well aware newbs like me are starting to think about SR and CQB. Problem is, there are almost too many decisions to make without having used any of this kit before. Belt? Plate carrier or chest rig? What do I need, what is nice to have, and what can I avoid spending hard earned cash on?

Fair enough! Personally I like having my rifle mags on my chest but that is most likely a result of many years in the military. You don't need a plate carrier unless either you plan on using plates or its a dual use one that works fine without plates. Lots of guys run belt type kits but for me its too awkward and slow. If you've shot IDPA/IPSC before this might feel more normal though. Whatever you get it will need to hold minimum 4 rifle mags and 2 pistol mags. Some of the better carriers/vests are neat because they just have molle on the front so you can buy and configure whatever mag systems appeal to you in whatever way you decide. Kinda like the Mr.Potato head of tactical gear lol.
Why don't you swing by the match and see what goes? I'm sure guys would let you try a thing or two on so that you can get a hands on feel. Might also pay to watch a bit to see how guys/girls are dealing with mag changes and placement of gear on their bodies. Something to think about before you blow a big wad on kit.
