Today was the first actual(not a practice) Action Rifle League CQB shoot. It took place out at Abbotsford Fish and Game Club. We had 50 guys out for this first match in which we were classifying folks. As we have all levels of shooters, from never shot an organized event before to guys that have shot on an international stage for their country, we decided that its only fair to be actually competing against folks of the same skill level. So the first hurdle was that you had to shoot a minimum of 300 out of 700 to get in to the marksman level. I really didn't want to leave anyone out of the badge levels but I figured you need to be able to shoot a minimum level. Wouldn't really be fair to give a guy that shot 70/300 the same badge as a guy that shot 370/700. So 300 was the standard. Thankfully everyone at the match shot at least 300 this time! Awesome surprise!
The levels went like this.
Marksman 300-425
Sharpshooter 426-525
Expert 526-624
Master 625-700
When I get the file that has all the actual scores I will post them all with first name and last initial. If you prefer not to be listed drop me a PM.
I can say that there were a small amount of marksman badges handed out with the vast majority being sharpshooter. A few more in the expert category and only one ,single master patch. Some real good shooting there! A couple were close to master and I'm sure with a bit more practice and/or luck will be there in no time. Overall way better shooting than last time guys! Well done!

I got one special kudo going out tonight. This one goes to Illae. Here is a quick vid I took of him shooting one of the transition matches. This was his first attempt at a match of any kind. Brand new AR and little training. The cool thing about this is what you can't see. My man is missing most of his right hand. You will see how a guy with drive can operate under any circumstances and overcome some stuff that would put most people down. Awesome! Dude if you are this smooth right now you are going to be a force after a few more matches! Really really well done!

Great day guys, glad you had the weather. One handed pistol shooting!!??? Wow. Interesting inserting the breach flag between transitioning.

Yeah - one-handed. It is a limitation I've faced all my life :) I am missing my right hand, and when I use both hands on the pistol, I end up pulling all my shots low/right. My best guess is that this is due to one arm being shorter than the other and in order for me to be stable, I naturally pull to the right. Still working out the kinks.

Here is a picture of A) my hand and B) how I rack the slide on my pistol - for those that may have been wondering:

I was sent the racker from a very generous gentleman in the US - Nelson at h ttp://www.speedshooterspecialties.com/. They make them in-house; they deserve support if you get the chance to purchase from them.

Awesome to see, Illea you are going to be an inspiration to a lot of people (as if you aren't already ;) )

Not sure if Longshot would allow it, but have you looked at or tried one-hand loading holding the pistol inverted between the knees? Combine that with pistol pouches without flaps or covers and I dare say you'll get all your shots off.

Hah - thanks! I am not an inspiration! Just a dude that wants to shoot, no matter what :D

I toyed around with a number of ideas for loading/reloading - and by far the safest, is the way that I've got it right now. I think I got caught off guard in this exposure, which led to missing 2 shots. The previous pistol exposure, I didn't miss a thing :) I have to be cognizant of my safety person behind me, and the rest of the line, so reholstering the pistol works for me. It may slow me down a bit, but that just means I need to practice more to speed things up and develop muscle memory :) Actually - in this video - I got hooked up with the flap being closed; I forgot to undo it.

**Edit - I really do appreciate the positivity coming from everyone! Apologies if I came off like a #### :D

I noticed you reach to the front to get the mag after reholstering, does the holster have a mag pouch? Would be faster if it did, less time lost reaching. Have the mag pouch as close to the butt of the pistol as possible, Just a suggestion.
