BC Proposal to BAN Scopes on Crossbows

hey're also how Mall Ninjas get out during archery season. I know more young guys with crossbows than compound bows because they take so much less skill to use effectively.

Nothing like slow trolling.

The act of holding aiming and shooting a crossbow are all much closer to a rifle than a regular bow. Do they also share similarities with regular bows? Of course they do. The argument can be made both ways so I'd say it's totally a matter of opinion.

Of course you would, you're clutching at straws.

I'm not going to read thru all the nonsense in this thread.

I do have a question though.
Was there a reason/explanation given for the desire to ban scopes ?
second question
Is there an identifiable group or entity that asked and lobbied for this change?

I spoke with a guy who owns a large guiding territory in region 6. Crusty old fugger, hard to talk too and was none to fond of the bow seasons in region 6 due to the number of injured moose and complaining about high end hunters with their crossbows. He said to me that the best thing the province could do for moose in the province is to close the bow seasons and put them on LEH with a archery profinciency test like they use for gun hunters in European countries. He was quite passionate about it.

I have no opinion either way on this topic until I know the WHY? and the WHO?

It’s all in the very first post.

Mind blown! But they won't ban money laundering, drug/human trafficking, and non resident real estate purchases.

Apparetly the COs are finding lots of cocked crossbows in vehicles, and this proposal is in response to that.

Removing scopes from crossbows because COs find cocked crossbows makes about as much sense as banning scopes on rifles because some hunters drive around with loaded magazines.

This proposal process looks like a schit show

Seriously a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. It's obvious the anti crossbow crowd here are either too lazy to put in the effort it takes to fill an archery tag and jealous of the early season, or ignorant about crossbow hunting. While some of the latest greatest new crossbows can shoot 400+ fps that doesn't make them shoot flat like a rifle. Compensating for 10 yard increments is still critical. I shoot just over 300fps and don't hunt much past 30 yards because the deer wont have its vitals where I was aiming by the time the bolt arrives at longer range. Deer recoil at the sound of the release. Just because guys shooting 400 fps can stay on target at 100 yards doesn't mean that's an acceptable hunting range. How many guys have you seen hunting with $2500 Ravin anyhow? I know lots of crossbow hunters and know of exactly zero that have shot deer at 50 yards or more. BTW compound bows shooting 370 fps are available.
Optics allow the bolt to be placed precisely and that leads to less wounded animals and cleaner kills. I get a laugh out of guys that mount optics on turkey guns to shoot a 12" pattern at a birds neck 40yards away but I don't feel the need to ban their choice of sight. Optics can keep old eyes in the game.
The saddest part is the divisiveness on the topic. If you hunt. Go hunt and stand with fellow hunters! There are lots of groups trying to take that sport away from us too.

Take away the vehicle, problem solved

It is pretty discouraging to read all of this "in house" bias being spewed on this thread... whether or not you personally like the legal equipment choices of other sportsman, should take a backseat to the fact that they ARE fellow sportsmen... and we need as many as we can get, or the next "asinine BAN" might be against one of your choices.

This scope ban on crossbows is stupid... the distance at which a weapon can be used is dictated by the physics employed by the weapon, not the sighting system. If a crossbow can be lethal at 70 yards with a scope it is just as lethal at 70 yards without the scope, but likely less accurate... so what we are really saying is that we WANT hunters to be less accurate. STUPID...

^^^^^^
THIS. Off the rails stupid proposal, and this coming from a guy with 3 compounds and 0 crossbows......

Guys who self limit themselves to shorter range with crossbows and don’t shoot to 100 yards are not using them to their full potential. But you, who can shoot better than most at 90 yards, but self limit yourself to 50 yard, you’re an ethical hunter. What’s the logic here?!?

The logic is form mistakes are much more likely to happen in the field with your heart pumping and archery accuracy is all about form. Crossbows I sure didnt have that problem when shooting them. someone also mentioned that theres bows that shoot 370 fps so what's the big deal. Here's how it works. Crossbows should shoot at there rated speed. Bows have a ibo speed they get rated at. Typically 30 inch draw, 350 gr arrow at 70 pounds draw. My bow is 28 inches 60 pounds and 425 gr arrow. Nowhere close to its ibo of 340. It shots 265 fps. Why? Much heavier arrow than ibo required but a good weight for hunting. Less draw weight. And for every inch of draw length you go under 30 inches you loose 12 to 15 fps. Crossbows just shoot the same for everyone. I do not think that banning scopes will solve a thing. They should adjust the seasons as it's not archery hunting. Its crossbow hunting.

You either have little to no experience with crossbows or you're trolling, but you've consistently posted nonsense as fact throughout this thread.
