bc transfer time

I called again today only to be told business transfers are taking weeks to complete. Then I called my MP and left a message that I want a follow up call in regards to the email I sent.

I'm keeping on this one.

Well if they are anything like us, we are at less than 50% of staff level, everyone is holding off hiring till we know how much money we will be getting in our budgets come April 1st. However complaining to your MP is useful as the problems that cause a squeaky wheel will generally get greased. Don't forget to mention that ditching short term ATT's and attaching more liberal conditions to the long term ATTs will dramatically reduce workload, staffing requirements, costs and wait times. Plus fulfill the government's mandate of cutting red tape while not increasing the risk to the general public.

I think. this happens in every province.

Bought from a dealer on March 14 and was approved today. I called to check the status. It hadn't been processed yet, but she volunteered to take a look at it (I didn't ask her to). She approved it on the spot.

I had been calling in every 2nd business day.

I had the same thing happen the other day. I called in to check on the status of a transfer that was at five weeks. The woman that was looking into it offered to approve it over the phone if I didn't mind holding. She also approved another one I was waiting on that was at week two or three. So, both approved in about 5 min.

I applied for my transfer on March 21 and it was issued on March 23. When I went into Wanstalls to pick it up they mentioned that several other people had experienced 1-2 day transfers recently. CFO office in BC has new staffers?

this is some positive news! :) i quit buying restricteds cause i was sick of waiting, 2 months in one case! i have some pending now not gonna get too excited for a while.......of course if you by one every week or two the wait isnt so bad they start to stream together! lol!

It shouldn't take any longer than the length of time it takes for both parties (buyer & seller) to make their respective phone calls. If the computer system is up to date, as it should be, and both parties have all their documentation updated as well then it should only be a matter of minutes for a transfer to be completed. I recently bought handgun from Cabela's in Edmonton and walked out the door with it in about 45 minutes with all the paperwork e-mailed directly to me...that's the way it should be everywhere!

From all the stories of approvals over the phone ranging from 1-5 minutes obviously it doesn't take long to do an approval. Wanna bet if this was private firm with staff on commission, paid by the approvals completed, the entire process would be done when the buyer/seller calls in the request.

Only in a union/gov't outfit is this kind of abuse accepted; never in a private call center.

What information do I need to check the status of my transfer? I didn't get anything from the gun store. Can I just call the CFO office in BC?

I think if I can't get it approved after calling, I will send in a complaint with the ombudsman to see if anything happens.

^Quickest is the reference number. Missing that CFO can check from your PAL.

Either way send the complaint into the ombudsman, we should get the max 3 days other provinces enjoy. No reason it should not be instantly approved at request time for valid transfer between PAL holders. What else are they checking???
