bc transfer time

Just called to check for a dealer to person transfer which was initiated April 8 and was told it has already been approved today. Now am waiting for the dealer to inform me about the shipping details.

My last restricted purchase I ended up driving to the cfo's office in surrey and getting it done on the spot after waiting for a day or two, it's ridiculous that i should have to go that far out of my way to have it done in a reasonable amount of time

I've had an average of 6 days from dealers, but private transfers are taking forever. they told me 5 to 15 business days. After that they said 4 weeks. After that they said 4-6 weeks. Still waiting. Absolute BS. I don't see how it could be anything but deliberate dog facking. Its not like there is anything to check, just cut and paste from one name to the other. pure politics IMO.

Two business days and less for some folks, nothing to reasonably complain about. Don't know why the discrepancy of long waits for some. Asked folks to post details but few has.

It is certainly reasonable to complain about 2 business days. The CFP website says transfers are typically done in a few hours.

And considering the many automated background checks that happen as a result of having an RPAL, there is no reason a transfer shouldn't be approved instantly.

Everyone who got their approval within 2 bus. days sure seem pretty happy about it.

The wishful thinking crowd wants instant everything which doesn't happen with anything Canadian. With the govt/union everything is SLOW, the CDN way of doing things.

I'd certainly be very happy if my approvals happened within 2 business days. Maybe it is wishful thinking to expect instant transfers. It is probably also wishful thinking to hope that some day I'll get an ATC. But I deserve both of these things. That's why it is entirely reasonable for me and others to complain when I don't get them.

Filing formal complaints helps us get a little bit closer to fixing the problem. If we all stop complaining when the CFO gets transfers consistently down to two days, then the powers that be will start thinking we are happy with the status quo.

BC is still using the registry era Transfer Notification (Buyer) letter. It states that "If the firearms are non-restricted, you make take possession of them now."

Really, it makes you wonder.

Maybe it would be a good idea to prepare and post on the forum politically (and grammatically) correct sample complain letter, regarding this problem, so everyone would be able to copy, sign and send it to MP, etc.?

My complaint letter isn't in a format that I'm ready/willing to publish. But if you PM me, I'll send you a copy.

Did anyone know that the BC CFO now require the purchaser to apply for the STATT to bring home a restricted after the transfer has been approved? It was changed because of some purchaser privacy concerns. I didn't know this and ended up waiting 6 weeks to take my pistol home. Could've had it home in 4 weeks but was not informed by the CFO to apply for a STATT myself.

(previously, my local gun store would apply for the STATT and give me a call when all was said and done)

Apparently so. I called the BC CFO a couple of weeks ago after waiting 3 weeks for a restricted transfer and she wanted to fax the statt to me. I said no, fax it to the gun store. She said she couldn't do that any more without my permission due to some privacy act or law. Also since I was getting the statt verbally over the phone, I had to pick a date for pick up since it is only good for one day. I also just bought a restricted last Friday and got a sheet from the gun shop outlining the procedure of now having to call the BC CFO to complete the transfer. Call, give all pertinent info, get statt faxed to me or give permission to fax it to gun shop.

Just got my restricted in the mail today - called for a STATT to get it from the post office to home. Was approved and emailed on the phone, got it within minutes (though 25 min on hold, which isn't too bad I suppose).

Hopefully get the LTATT in the next couple of days...

Person-to-person, six (6) weeks for my last transfer, a restricted revolver to a happy BC resident.

Awful. I signed the petition.

It took 2 months to take possession of my AR. Private deal in BC. Did a formal complaint and was told that 30 days is what it usually with all CFO's... So they basically lied to my face thru email. Bunch of bums. Bought one of them 1911+ammo combo deals from canam and hoping it won't take as long.

Bought a restricted firearm at the Kamloops gun show. Transfer was completed and Statt in hand in less than a hour. Waiting 4 weeks now for another restricted to be approved by BC CFO. Doesn't make sense.
