BCL 102 buyers remorse

It's to bad BCL didn't just hire a few of the self proclaimed experts on this site to lead them on to greatness.
For probably less than 50 bucks an hour consultation they could have had all the answers to all the mysterious metallurgical questions.
It really get comical after a while!
Lol...carry on.

BTW it is also my understanding from this post that Stag is looking for $3500 CND for a Sub MOA rifle.

Seems you may have misread the post. That would be a Troy 102.

One of the posts also said someone questioned Troy at taccom about it and they're making it out of anodized 6061 so it "cracks rather than explodes" so I guess they're counting on a lot of catastrophic failures right off the start ?

Anyone that thinks the Troy 102 is anything other than a rebadged BCL102 to get around all the horrific issues associated with the BCL/NEA name is going to be seriously disappointed. There are still new BCL102 design flaws coming to light at the same time Troy is sharing pictures of completed rifles... did anyone there even QC the design or they just took BCL and SFRC's word that the design works? I hope the association with BCL doesn't end up tarnishing the Troy name.

I just feel bad for all the people who are still buying this rifle based on the "hur dur, mine didn't explode!!!1" BCL fanboys. Trying to defend their poor purchasing decision even after an entire laundry list of design flaws have popped up.

Which flaws are coming up with the Gen 2's? Any links or facts, or just sucking Stag ####?

Lol, that's funny, try any of the endless 102 problem threads that have been started here since the release of the 102.

Scroll down and just open every thread that says BCL 102, keep going, yep there's more, keep going lots to read.
Most of them started by actual 102 owners who bought the rifle hoping for their dream non restricted 308 and later learned that all the negative comments were right.

No I don't own one, I'm way too smart to waste my money on anything from BCL, I've owned AR parts from NEA (still have a receiver set) and learned my lesson.

As a lefty, if I was to buy one I'd want an LH Stag

But I think that when my own 102 journey comes to an end I'm going to get out of the AR-10 game and stick with bolts.

Best thing in this thread was finally getting an answer on the alloy Troy is using. Pity that multiple questions to the importing dealers didn't merit a straight answer.

I’ve handled and shot both. There is absolutely no comparison between the 2. Material, finish, trigger, barrel. Everything is better on the stag than the bcl.

The only thing the bcl has going for it is a cheaper price and a made in Canada sticker. They also have a great warranty. But good reliable products don’t need a great warranty, as they seldom break.

The only real problem I have with it is I’m a lefty. The low profile brass deflector isn’t enough to throw brass out enough not to hit me in the cheek. I had to rig up a quick fix, and I’m not too pleased with it. I hunt with it as well, and it hasn’t failed me at all.

Lefty here - I'm not generally having the issues you seem to with the brass - you may want to look into hand loading for it or maybe an adjustable gas block.

I get it with most of the posters on here: I too am still a little butt-hurt over paying full pop for one as an early adopter, and sure, there are design decisions and features that make you scratch your head.
If buying new out of the gate, getting a Stag 10 is a no-brainer. But hindsight and all of that....
If early flaws have been taken care of and it is running well, there is no sense taking a loss on it selling it used, just so you can go purchase a Stag.
So if it isn't broke, and it's doing what you want from it, why fix it?

Yes I own both. I will say that I actually like my BCL 102 in many ways. I personally really like the looks of the gen2 BCL 102 even though it's hard to match the front handguard. I happen to like how the handguard matches up and think of it as a hobby grade rifle. The trigger sucks, the fact that it's cerekoted and not anodized sucks. The fact that it's 6061 aluminum sucks. BCG issues suck. So what do I like? At the time it was the only affordable AR308 non restricted. I like the overall factory looks with upper/lower and handguard all matching. I like that when done up they shoot the way you would expect an AR308 to shoot. I like the ambi bolt release. Again as a hobby grade rifle I do kind of like it. Would I buy one now? No.

Stag 10, 7075 anodized aluminum forged upper/lower. All parts are the DPMS style so most aftermarket available compatibility. The trigger is ok, and a ton better than the BCL102. I like the contours on the forged upper/lower. I like how the MI handguard matches up if building your own. Also upper/lowers for builds that aren't stripped. Would I buy another Stag 10? Absolutely. Especially for builds.

+2 - good post. I don't agree with much of what was in the video above you posted, however.

There is real information by owners on issues and solutions.

There was absolutely QC issues with some rifles and BCL, if you have an issue, go to their web site, create an RMA and they will fix it for free.
Current turnaround is two weeks.

If you want to upgrade your BCL and have it shoot very well and Sub MOA or better, contract Ryan at International Barrels inc.
Ryan Steacy just won his 6th!!!! DCRA National Service Conditions Championship in Ottawa and knows his $hit.
He can tell you all about their IBI BCL barrels, and why they use a Rifle length gas tube and why they don't recommend the mid-length BCL OEM barrel.

I have yet to pull the trigger, and I just bought new CZ Shadow 2 which was on sale, and I am trying to decide between the .308 or 6.5 Creedmore IBI barrel.

BCL is at TACCOM.

Another good post, and one that cuts to the chase with ARs that shoot well - spin on a good/great barrel, float it, get a decent trigger, feed it some good ammo and get some practice.

The quality of the features of the BCL were on par with the price when they came out, and sure there was the premium people were tripping over to purchase a non-restricted AR-10ish rifle - that can't be overstated.

I’ll be looking to upgrade my BCL 102 in the future. I’m currently thinking of going with the Stag10, but without seeing a living Troy102, would I be wise to wait?

It's a BCL clone. Don't waste your time with the troy, get the stag if you want a big caliber, otherwise look at the SLR or ATRS Modern Hunter.

Anyone get and read the "Calibre" magazine?

A few months ago there was a full page ad in it for the Troy 102...and it was still just a ####ty blue print/CAD photo!!! HAHAHA!!!

Also (to me) the fact that Troy isn't (doesn't want to?) "market" this to the USA...you know, a place where gun ownership and sales beats us 100 fold is a little odd/concerning...
