BCL 102 stripped receiver set thread

It's intentionally in a spot which doesn't make it compatible with off the shelf products?

Wondering if it's location is consistent with the AR 102 classification. There are some differences. Plus many of the parts seem to be more compatible with the AR10 than the DPMS system. Welcome to the world of the AR10/AR308 rifles!! Compatibility has always been an issue and pain in the rear with the 308 AR rifles.

Thanks. The screw will be taken care of by a gunsmith. I don't' trust myself enough to do it.

I've also found that my bolt catch isn't working. I think it's because my bolt catch spring isn't long enough (even tough I suing the longer BCL plunger). I've sent an email to Ryan to buy a BCL OEM takedown in and bolt catch spring. Hopefully, he can help and I can get this puppy working.

I'm not all that handy so putting this together has been a bit of a pain.
I had the same problem with my rear takedown pin from a ALG / Geiselle kit. I forced it and it is doing what it needs to...... but I should have gotten a drill bit the correct size and chased the hole. Good luck!!!

Can’t help with the screw head stripped, but if you are not confident I would refer to a gunsmith.

The Gen III PRS stocks will fit over a Carbine or A5 length reciever tube. I now run a V7 carbine tube on my Modern Hunter, so I can easily switch between a PRS & CTR stock. I plan on doing the same for my BCL102. I won’t bother with a buffer retainer, I’ll run the JP SCSS like I do on 5 of my other rifles.

I'm not sure the PRSIII will fit over the BCL buffer tube. I tried and couldn't get it to work:

Comparison to standard AR15 buffer tube (top) and BCL102 buffer tube (bottom) mounted:

Ended up using an A2 receiver extension.

Push on the bottom of the upright lever on the left side and see if it works then.

Good to know. I can’t comment on a BCL102 tube, I don’t have one.

When I get back from work next week sometime I’m going to start going through my raw aluminum lower and start fitting parts. I only had it a few hours before I had to leave for work. I tried fittings Phase 5 308 bolt catch, it seemed to fit okay, but the set screws (that replace the bolt catch pin) they sent with the lower didn’t want to thread in easily. I didn’t want to force it, so gave up. I’ll chase the threads with a tap when I get home and measure the set screwthread pitch to make sure they match. I believe someone, maybe Dilligaf, said they were 4/40 threads / set screws.

I’d recommend anyone with a receiver set check all the home sizes / threads before starting to assemble it. With correct size drill bits (or identify framers) and bottoming taps.

I also tried a Strike Industries .308 polymer ejection port cover on the upper. It fit quite well, but the detent just barely grabs when closed.

Can I ask what brand you went with, it was successful in retaining the buffer retaining pin?

Lol, ARStoner. It worked on my buddy's gen 2 (complete riflr) but the wierd thing is,I just test fit another 102 upper/lower receiver sets that my other buddy just got, and I don't think it's going to work....will see how it fits on the receiver I ordered.

Hey guys, Armalite barrel nut is supposed to fit these right?

I have one, but it sure seemed tight trying to spin on to one of these stripped uppers.

It was my buddy's so I didn't try to force it.

Check both the nut & the upper with a thread pitch gauge, make sure they match. If the upper is ceracoaed on threads, that can add enough thickness to make engagement tight.

You should have recieved two different set screws. The bolt catch set screw for the left is slightly smaller than the one for the ambi release on the right. The hole for it is just big enough to make you think the larger screw might fit.

Use some moly and thread it on and off a few times to clean up the threads. Have done three and all were tight.

I wire brushed the threads (By hand) before I put my armalite round tube on. I was deathly afraid of stripping the threads cause it was so tight.

Thanks guys, I was a bit worried there, but I will do that when mine arrives :)

It works then, but only the left hand bolt release. The right side doesn't work at all, there is no spring tension on it. When I put in a spacer it worked.

The spring for the bolt catch should be sandwiched between the plunger from your lower parts kit as well as the longer one provided from BCL.

Hey guys,

I bought a receiver set and buying some components but need a hand with a few questions please:

1. Ejection Port Cover: what style is it? DPMS, Armalite, Armalite AR-10T?

2. Trigger/Hammer Pin: is it a standard AR15 length pin or something longer?

3. Buffer Tube Assembly: I think I read to run a mil-spec carbine buffer assembly I can use an AR15 style. Is this correct and can I use a AR15 buffer and spring as well or do I need a 308 spring/buffer?

4. LPK: I’ve read it takes a standard AR15 LPK with the exception of the proprietary parts. Is this correct?

Your help is appreciated!
