BCL102, Is there happy owners??

I had a Gen 1, bought it used. Had an issue with it, sent it in and got a replacement Gen 3 BCL. Been to the range twice no issues and am impressed on the accuracy for a semi and how much lighter the New Gen 3 are.

Its pretty much the same half a dozen doing the whining every time.
Maybe one day when they get a life they can move on, on the other hand stirring the pot can be fun at times...lol

I rely heavily on reviews and personal impressions to justify a purchase. I have decided to pass on the BLC-2.

Hmmm, this gives me an 'idea' ;) lol Thnx!

Gen 1. Under 100 serial #. Around 1600rd mark now. Did replace gas rings quickly. Charging handle latch wore out around 1200rds. I shoot this rifle regularly from 40-400yds. I’ve changed parts as I do with every AR to suit my wants and needs. I found I needed an adjustable gas block to get mine to feed properly as it was overgassed. But short of that it functioned perfectly for me.

One advantage I see over the Stag is uppers aren’t exactly proprietary so uppers can be found cheap and built easily enough.

The factory coating didn’t seem to be the best, I’ve since refinished it with KG Gunkote Nano and seems to be holding up quite well.

This is a cold dead hands rifle and most problems could be easily solved if the owners had more AR experience. But absolutely. For the $2k I paid for initial preorder I would’ve expected it to work flawlessly. Rifle nowadays is a $5k with optics rifle and still holds my heart.

I don’t shoot any factory centre fire so have no experience on that aspect.

It’s not the lightest. It’s not the warmest sitting in a stand. It’s not one hole accurate. But it’s a 308 AR that’s a bit over MOA and makes me smile all the time whether plinking range using or hunting.

Caveat emptor.

I owned a second generation 102. It was a fairly decent rifle but fit and finish were marginal at best. It had some difficulty with ejection on a second upper I purchased. I am still waiting for the replacement extractor that BCL said they would ship me. In December! Got tired of waiting so I sold the rifle. Rifle review is that it worked and went bang when the trigger was squeezed. Accuracy was 1.5 MOA. Built a Stag. Much better machining with actual anodizing. Oh and easy parts compatibility. Win,win. Having had NEA parts previously and finally a BCL, I can say that while I am a proud Canadian, I will not be buying any more of this particular Canadian product.

Well, mine has been a bit of a mixed bag BCL gen 2? Second pre-order I think. Was having fail to eject issues with Barnaul. I have some concern on some of the ware I see after a few hundred rounds. Had it out the other day and it started out pretty darn good using Norinco 308. Had some real nice 5 round groups the size of a quarter at around 70 yards then my extractor ripped the lip of a round and ended my day after 30 rounds.

The gun has great potential and pretty darn happy with the accuracy. I am sure with my match grade ammo this thing will be good. It seems to have issue with cheap ammo but still need to spend time on it. I do like the gun at not giving up yet. The damage/wear from the stove pipes and if you use the wrong pistol mag damage to the feed lip has me concerned. It is not any battle proven rifle and seems to require more use to smooth out the failures. I am hopeful once I get few more rounds in it will find its happy place.

Just curious if anyone with extractor or stove pipe issues has noted any deformity of the extractor?
BCL reported there was an issue with the heat treatment of some the extractors, which they now report as being addressed.
Almost any episode of "Forged in Fire" will highlight the problems of not getting the heat treatment just right. :)

My 102 does no have any issues. However, I also took the extractor out of the BCG and gave both a complete cleaning and inspection.
I have yet to find and deformity on my extractor, and I am closing in on 1000 rounds. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

However, it would be interesting to see examples of extractors on 102s that are experiencing Stovepipe and extraction failures, and perhaps give others examples of what to look out for.

Have you actually read and compared the posts? Because the Stag issues are quickly handled, for example:

I'm not comparing customer service. I know how BCL can be, I'm dealing with them for a replacement bolt on an NEA rifle my friend has.

I'm simply saying there's room for both rifles on the "quality control schmality control" wagon.

One has problems with part A, one has problems with part B. If Stag owns up to it and helps out faster, awesome! But to dismiss the BCL due to quality control issues, and say oh but Stag fixes theirs faster, still means they're both guilty of having issues with the rifles.

It's like how people brag about the vortex lifetime warranty and their scope was replaced 3 times already. Great, doesn't mean your scope still didn't have problems.

Both rifles have had teething issues and quality control issues, same as every other home brewed non restricted AR(ish) type rifle in Canada. Some people have had reliable solid rifles. Mine didn't like some old reloads I tried shooting, that's the only time it wouldn't work, but the rounds wouldn't chamber, so that's on me not my rifle. Some people have had lemons.
Some Stags run like the proverbial sewing machine. Some don't even shoot semi automatic because Stag couldn't be bothered to fit a gas block on. I believe some of them also were so tight they couldn't separate the receiver? Correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

Ideally we'd all buy perfect guns and never have to worry about dealing with the company, but here we are. Go stag I guess. They seem to fix their broken stuff faster than BCL, what a badge of honour. ;)

The Stag doesn’t have design issues. The Stag hasn’t lost 50% of its value over the pre-order price. The Stag doesn’t have finish issues. The Stag didn’t have design changes between pre-order batches. Stag and Arms East didn’t use consumers paying full price to beta test their rifles.

There were a tiny number of Stag issues vs hundreds of posts about BCL issues.

I’ll say it again since you clearly missed it the first time: have your fanboy thread. Pat each other on the back for being the 5 people who got BCL rifles that worked. But don’t you dare bring the Stag 10 into this. You’re comparing apples and oranges. Comparing the Stag 10 to the BCl-102 is like comparing a Kia to a Porsche.
