BCL102 presale

Well Ryan just said there is no Gen 1 or Gen 2, just changes as suggested which so far sound cosmetic. Why the #### would you want to fix the issues when you have suckers lined up around the block to buy their wares?

Would you feel better if bcl called it a gen 2?

One of the advantages of a smallish, domestic small arms manufacturer is they can respond to domestic user issues quickly and incorporate consumer feedback into future updates. Has bcl done this? I don’t know for sure but it sounds like it. There is a very good reason for them to fix issues - contrary to CGN opinion, the folks that work there want to see their fellow Canadians happy with their product.

It seems a bit premature for you to judge the changes made as being simply cosmetic. Time will tell...I know some people are eager to take another dump on bcl/NEA but wouldn’t it make more sense to see how this second batch functions before pulling down your pants?

Fixing a few small issues people brought up doesn't make it a new generation of firearm.

Hope you got a moose after carrying it that far!

I did see a 140yd rock in the last two minutes of legal light on the last night. From a clearly abandoned last use tree stand in some beautiful land just outside Algonquin park. Carrying an AR10. Alas no bull but the rock was dead.

Because they make more money this way.

Because they make the other parts as well. The barrel blank I recall is bought but the rest I was told was being made in house. Another reason why the costs are low, since it's not a few parts made in house with the rest being third party bolt ons that are charged retail and then some. Plus it's an actual made in Canada, not assembled in Canada firearm.

True, and if they just sold the stripped uppers and lowers there would be a much smaller market for them since there are nowhere near as many guys with the tools and skills to do a full build.
It makes much more sense for them to do a full rifle, at least until sales slow down. As long as they are doing pre-sale and selling them out within a day it makes no sense as a business trying to make the most profit possible to sell just the receiver set. Give it a year and I'd bet we see them start offering just the upper/lower.
I don't care much if it's made in Canada or just assembled in Canada, I just want the parts to be built correctly and for 99% of the rifles to work as advertised right out of the box. Upgrading is a normal and fun thing to do to any AR platform rifle but it shouldn't be required just to get it to run reliably. Some guys just want to buy the rifle and shoot it as is and not have to send it back for repairs or replace parts themselves to make it reliable.
I hope Ryan is right and they have addressed some of their manufacturing/QC issues and we start to see a much more consistent product coming from them.

Sure. It would be nice if we knew what those changes are. All you’ve mentioned are the obvious visual changes.

Has the tight chamber been fixed? Has the bolt issue been fixed? Has the apparent lack of QC been addressed?

Don’t take my post as trying to be argumentative or trash talking but it shouldn’t be this hard for us to get info. We have virtually no information from the manufacturer.

if your customers are calling it gen 2, best to call it gen 2

the rcmp could decide if the company calls it "gen 2" then it needs to be reevaluated, new frt issued and made restricted/prohib...... similar to what has been done to the cz858 "molon labe" model, cosmetic changes were enough to sink that ship.

Will bet my money on only two certainty right meow.
1. I'm hypa-drunk on a saturday.
2. NEA going to keep on NEA'ing on this one.....

I wouldn't #### the BCL102 with Chemists ####. Just saying :D

I handled one of the Gen 2 BCL 102's today that a coworker got. I was not very impressed. The machining of the receivers was decent, still some sharp corners & edges. The Cera-coat job was okay. The things that bugged me were the looseness of the Gas rings to BCG fit. If it was a AR15 I'd saw they are wore out, but maybe the rifle was designed this way. The opening in the upper is about 1/8" too long for the port door, so with a slight bump it pops open. The bolt catch seemed like it was barely catching the bolt. And Pmags (gen II or gen III) do not drop free, ASC 10 round XCR-M mags barely drop free. And a AXTS Raptor charging handles doesn't fit (they fit on the Gen I's). Also there was a scratch in the Cera-coat on the barrel from who ever installed the handguard. If it I got a new firearm like that I wouldn't bee too happy. The over size port door opening bugged me the most, since that cannot be changed with replacement parts. Like how is that even possible?? They find some 1/8" smaller port doors? Where their digital calipers zero'd wrong when checking dimensions on the part? Can they not see the obvious gap?

I cannot comment on function because it has not been fired yet, or how tight the chamber is since I did not bring my headspace gauges.

1. I'm jealous, I'm sitting at work trying to fall asleep but can't.
2. I hope not but chances are good since they have been doing the same thing for years and haven't really shown much improvement no matter how many NEA-15's were sent back or complained about on the forums.

2.5. LMFAO

Hmmm, not too promising, glad I'm sitting on the sidelines till they get inside the 10 yard line. Still not worth the risk.

I preordered an ODG under their military veteran discount which I think is very classy on SFRCs part. Thank you. As an ex service member I am excited to get my hands on a non-restricted AR platform that I am very familiar with. Also, the rifle is reasonably priced and the fact that I can support a Canadian company - BCL - is important to me.
Can't wait till she comes in!!!
Merry Christmas to all!!!!

It's definitely a rifle worth keeping an eye on, but I'm going to wait and see what the consensus is on overall quality and performance before I buy one. No hurry seeing as they're only on presale and with so many other good rifles that are waiting to be bought and shot!
