BCL's New Rifles

So this bison fore end with a profile of a brick and ergonomics of two by four is not shaped like that to have a rail installed underneath? What is the reason then?

I agree with you. I would rather have a rounded handguard (that would also shave off some weight as well). Not sure what that is all about.

There's a lot of manufacturers making top quality bolt actions these days.

It's going to be a very hard sell to overlook all the quality bolt actions that exist to go with a company that not only has up to this point no experience with bolt actions, but has a very shaky past with quality and QA/QC on their previous products.

Haha, yep. So many good options available these days from companies that have proven platforms that work.

$1000 would price this well below most other bolt actions with a modular chassis. That said, if this takes AR mags (which it looks like it does?) then that might actually be a bad thing due to the fact that the OiC banning AR pistols means the AR pistol mags will have to be pinned to 5 (if there is no commonly available handgun for the mags they don't get the 10rd limit).

Plus, it's BCL so I'm sure they screwed up something else too...

You get what you pay for...

BCL has not answered questions on multiple platforms about their rifle. Bad business practice.

I've asked about whether you can replace the barrel, what's the thread pattern for attachingthe barrel to the receiver. No answer.

I've asked if the receiver footprint is similar to other brands, for after market stocks. No answer.

I've asked if they'll sell barreled actions or just actions alone. No answer.

Even a "no" would be satisfactory. But silence is all I got back.

So I'm done with them.

I would contact the distributor about such things, they are the ones dealing with customers. BCL is just a manufacturer, not a retailer or distributor so they aren't exactly going to be answering all of your questions. Regardless it would be nice of them to answer your questions, its just good business practice.

That's a really a$$ backwards way to handle CS.

Sounds like they took the same customer service course ultimatum precision took.

Why would you have broken bolt handles on a manually operated rifle. ——Dieseldog!

Screws are not meant to resist force in that directions. I've encountered several rifles that had a thread-in bolt handle (not the knob, but the shaft that threads into the bolt body) that had the handle break off. That includes a Cadex Tremor.

On .22LR.....might not happen because there's never really that much force to begin with. But on rifles with bigger cases that require more force for initial extraction.....much more likely.

Remington (silver solder), Tikka (dovetail), Savage ('keyed'), etc <-- they all have a 'drive' feature

Maybe being .223 it's less of an issue. But still not a good design feature. And also very likely to come loose at the very least.

:)

I questioned this because earlier in this thread someone stated or questioned over gassing issues with this new rifle and it looked to me that they thought they were looking at a semi auto rifle not a bolt gun. This is why I questioned the broken bolt handle concern. I thoroughly understand fasteners and later load issues with them but poor design of the bolt handle seems pretty rare to me although possible verses threaded bolt handle issues on semis breaking. —Dieseldog!

If that's the case I hope they were smart enough to use a more appropriate footprint than the UP guys.

I agree, Ultimatum takes some very, um, "interesting" design approaches with their products.

In all honesty, I really don't know why an Ultimatum action is sitting in their chassis, and why that was one of the rifles featured. I made an assumption that could very well be incorrect. But the Ultimatum action in their chassis jumped out to me as well right away, so I was making a guess. Perhaps they are making a chassis for their action as well?

I don't know, but I agree it's a bit weird.
