BCRA Tactical Rifle 2011/2012

I would love to attend this match. Problem is whether or not the timing will work. I've never been to this type of match and I too do not have a partner. I finally have a rifle for it not though! Time to practice.

I'm stuck in the same situation depending on my job status, I may be getting to old to be playing this type of game but it sure looks like fun. July 1st is my 60th birthday and I can not think of something that would be more fun than this.
cheers

Bucky you are not too old.We have quite a few guys your age come out. Its not nearly as strenuous as you might think. In Service Rifle we have an old retired Marine colonel that is 78 and was still coming out to the matches last year.At the national service conditions championship in Ottawa there are lots of folks still shooting that are a little older. You'll do just fine!

Your too kind Longshot I will defiantly try and make this one, I believe I will be in the open category due to shooting my 243 but as you said there are less of them so I may have a chance.
Cheers Ryan.

The bosses wife came out 2 years ago having never fired a precision rifle EVER and finished middle of the pack. She couldn't make it last year but she's addicted now and just put together a rifle with a brand new Bartlein on it.I've seen you shoot mate.Trust me you'll do just fine!
So your going to shoot your .243 eh? I thought you were building a .308?
I'm not trying to dissuade you from your chosen caliber but the last 2 years there weren't any open shooters at all.I always wondered why but it may be the shoot is on the same weekend as other F type matches.I would like to see a healthy dose of good open shooters just to see how those of us that shoot .308's in these types of matches can do against them.It would be a good test!

Longshot say it isn't so :(

I was in hopes there would be a multitude of calibers on the line, so many many different people.....so many different calibers. Funny thing is I was going to come out with my factory Remington VLS since it has been shooting well for me and see what the Tactical side was all about. The new caliber I was thinking of building would have been a 260 so I would have been in the same boat. If I was to show my ugly face would I be able to shoot for the fun of it as long as my rifle made specs etc. CURIOUS MINDS WANT TO KNOW.
cheers

Absolutely! Even if your rifle doesn't make spec you can still shoot open with whatever you have and still be in the running for swag. Is your VLS a .308? I'm sure it would be just fine. Remember this tactical type shooting doesn't nessisarily mean you need to shoot small groups like Fclass. The scoring zones on most of our targets are way bigger than moa but we present the shooter with other complications like moving targets, target only exposed for a few seconds, positions other than prone and/or multiple targets where you have to make a choice. A rifle that can shoot 1 moa or even a little larger will still be very competitive if the shooter drives it the right way!

If I can make I plan to bring my 6.5x47. I do have a 1x10 twist 30 cal barrel blank that I was considering chambering in 308 and installing on the same action but really cannot commit to a calibre so it sits on my shelf.

I think I'm going to be shooting a GAP 10 in 6XC. I hope that`s OK too.

lol... sorry, I mean that when the timberwolf came along as a prize everyone started shooting a rifle that was allowed to win. As in not in the open class. Just a guess anyway, I have not data to back this up.

No your probably right! See look there are 3 guys all without partners and all wanting to shoot open guns! Perfect! Just commit and then team up! I'm sure we can find at least one more open shooter without a partner.

I thought the match organizers had moved on from this restriction.

No there are still two classes. Since we want to make this a test of marksmanship NOT a test of caliber, if you want to be eligible to win the big prizes, you have to shoot a .223 or .308. If you are shooting an open gun you WILL still get something off the prize table but you won't be able to win the big kahuna which the one year happened to be a T Wolf.

So now I see,its all about the prize table everyone is going for, this is bigger than I thought ( JUST KIDDING I know its a big shoot )
:D
Time to read up on what I may need and how many bullets are required for such a match, sounds like way more fun than one should have in his life.
Cheers
