Well help me to open the can a little and let a few worms out at a time.:)

Screw moderation, just hack open the big can of Whoop-Ass and have at er'.:p :D :dancingbanana: ;)

Even though this is a Sniper/precision match, we don't want to exclude the "belly" gun guys, or anyone else, so I think the "Open Class" is a good start to welcoming them back.:D

The more shooters that attend, the better, but we also want to have a level playing field (with in reason) as was mentioned above.

anyone else like my suggestion for carrying your ####, empty handed for the tac class?

Jerry,
as far as the rules go, I don't believe the DCRA did their research in regard to the weight. A factory heavy barrel rifle and scope is under 14lbs, but that is not what this class is about. This class is about real "working" rifles, look at the M40a1, most famous Sniper rifle of all time, with the most basic frills-free stock around and it weighs over 17lbs. I went through a ton of rifles comparing them and came up with 17.5 and that still leaves a few rifles out...but covers the majority. With time and cooperation from the competitors we should be able to come to a concensus without too much whining.

Rob,
I agree with you about too much crap laying around the firing line. However, people seem to get scared away having to shoot in a way that makes them uncomfortable. If I told them that they would have to carry their gear all day for two days I wouldn't want to deal with the whining  this is already a hell of alot of work. All I can say is we are not wanting to see piles of crap on the firing line, no coolers, chairs, swimming pools and hammocks on the firing line:p , keep that stuff off the range on the sides.

On a side note I am looking at adding a new segment to day two, it will be the first match, a "Cold bore shot" at 600m, you will have 60 seconds to place one shot on a round target. I have not decided on which target to use yet I am not sure how small the V-bull should be.This segment will be weighed heavier than the other segments.:dancingbanana:

PHM, I really pity the pro that has to carry that lead sled of a rifle in the field. They must build them strong in the forces.....or very clumsy....maybe both.

I just thought you were being nice and letting all those mag fed F(F/TR) rifles compete - same weight limit more or less. I guess some F (F/TR) rifles wear longer then 27" barrels, not that it helps much.

Love the idea of a cold barrel 600m event. As to size of target, consider a 2 MOA target (12" or so since this is a working man's target), with 1/2 MOA X ring. This would be out to the 9 ring on a F class target and the X ring is already defined as 1/2 MOA.

Center of mass and CNS hit.

Got a barrel on order.......

Jerry

The USMC snipers have been packing/dragging 15 to 18 lbs rifles through all types of action/war zones for years.

If thats all you ever had, you don't know what a light weight rifle is!!!!!;) :D

If you are interested in coming to the match and require an entry form and a BCRA membership application, PM me your e-mail addy and put "entry form" as the subject. I am not allowed to send out the Entry forms before Feb.1st, so once Feb1 hits I will e-mail out the PDF's, mail them to me and once I have received them I will e-mail you that I have your stuff so nobody gets left behind.

gotta figure out how to take my last 3 days off work now. I thought I was on days off for this match, but the calendar was screwed up. I am working Thursday through Sunday. Saturday and Sunday being nights. Gonna see if I can get one of other guys to cover my shifts, but it'll be awhile before I know for sure. PISS ME OFF!!!!
I suppose I could try and pay Longshot to sight in my gun again, shoot saturday, work Saturday night (sleep as much as I can), shoot sunday till 2 then bugger of to work for 3? I think I did that 2 years ago?

Do what I do and just book holidays............you do get holidays don't you?????

You need to be in top form this year...................

You better find a replacement. There is no way you cannot make this match. You have a lot of time to pay someone at work to do your shift. he he. Cash and presents work well.

Pardon a real newbie question... and if I get flamed for it, I'm ready.

Looking at the course of fire, it sounds like a ton of fun... and Chilliwack isn't that far away.

What would happen, hypothetically, if someone showed up with a Tikka T3 lite .308, and a 3-9x scope? I know it would be placed in the open class, but how suitable would it be for this type of shooting?

You will NOT be flamed. The rifle sort of meets the Tac rules except for the Current or Mil-surp type sniper rifle part. We will let that slide. The first problem I can see would be the optic, If you don't have externally adjustable turrets you will fall behind in a big hurry. You need the ability to adjust for elevation at the different yardages. The second would be the little noodle barrel, try to shoot a 10 shot string in 2 minutes and see what your point of impact does and how your group size changes, now imagine that at 600

umm why would that rifle be in the open class? it meets the criteria for tac class. It's not a belly gun.
if you can count your clicks on your scope, you're good to go. I've seen people use standard scopes before, and while they might not have won, they certainly weren't last.
can't book holidays, guy on my shift already did that in November. Gotta get a sub instead. I'll have a weeks worth of banked time by then, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll still register ahead of time, and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

Agreed, I figure the optics should be good up to 500 yards, although I can't test that out as my range only goes up to 200. I am able to group 4" at 200.

As for the hunting barrel, I've had to let it sit 2-3 min between shots to cool down otherwise I'm high and right for subsequent shots, especially on hot days.

I am able to borrow a Mauser98 with 24" heavy target barrel. It has peep sights, and was used in matches up to 1000 yards, but I'm guessing you'll need good glass to compete. :(

Realistically, your rifle will have to group under 1 MOA to be competetive, however a rifle that shoots 0.5 MOA is your best bet (IE, 0.5" groupds @ 100m, 1" groups @ 200m and so on.....).

Not trying to scare you off, but just letting you know what the standard is for Precision/Sniper matches. Some of the targets have really small scoring rings and you can't have a miss in some stages or you lose your points for that stage.

You will also be firing pretty quickly in some stages as you only get a 3 sec. exposure, so waiting 2 - 3 minutes between shots is a no go (unless you want to give away points...;) ).

Borrow the other rifle you mentioned and buy a Bushnell 3200 10X mildot scope and mount that up.The Bushy scope is under $300.00 new, or you can find a good deal on a used one in the EE Forum. They show up there quite often.

Due to a shoulder injury I might use my AR this year... if I do it will be interesting to see how it works out ;)

AWWWWWWWWwwwww........The big, burly guy got a shoulder boo-boo .....................has to shoot a "mouse" gun.............

SUCK IT UP MAN!!!!! ;) :p :D

LOL... it's not the recoil it's the working the bolt that is the problem. I'll see how it works out. Get me a semi 308 or bigger and I'll shoot it ;)

actually if a person is willing to pay for ammo, there is a good chance they could borrow a rifle at the match. I know I am not against lending mine out if need be.
