be honest...remington 770 ???

I acquried my 770 as part of a trade. Although I have actually been pleasantly surprised with the 770, I have to agree that a used husky from tradex is probably a better idea. There are some good deals on used rifles. You could get far better quality than a new budget rifle for the same price.

Bolt rifles and pump shotguns are two areas where still decent, new out of the box products could be purchased at the entry level prices. Unlike scopes and semi-autos, which if you want performance, you have to move up.

To quote a previous Remington 710 / 770 bashing thread...

"One time a few months ago, I went into Walmart, and forgot my 770 on the seat of my truck. When I returned, there was two of them!"

That $hits funny - don't care who ya are!

Just terrible. I've not had good experiences.

As stated, Marlin XL7/XS7, Stevens 200, or Savage 11/111, in package form or not are good choices. Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard can be found pretty cheap as well. Any of those are solid choices.

I had just recently found a shop selling these rifles for an affordable price, and after reading this thread, what are the real problems of this rifle other than I see a few that talked about an ejection problem and trigger issues?

They have a pressed in barrel, the action feels so rough that you would think that it is full of sand, the magazines are of poor quality, actually, the entire rifle is poorly made, using the cheapest methods possible. The Stevens or Savage are far better rifles for the same money.

M770 .... If I buy one, will my #### fall off ?

No seriously, if the Rem 770 can work for you then hang on to it. I'm just a Remmy M700 snob! :D

Frankly, throwing good money after questionable money in the first place is a very frustrating approach. BTDT, kept the M700's because they work for me:

My pair of M700's for 'coyotes' and "earth pigs".....

Hope this helps!

i got a rem 770 in 30-06 its actually a half decent accurate rifle for what it costs. my actoin sucks though. it is hard as hell to ####, the trigger was awfull until i tuned it.accuracy wise i am able to put 3 rounds groups touching at 150 yards. it shot 2 deer this year one at 300 yards and other at 350 yards. both threw the neck it worked for me.i am upgrading to the rem 700 sps for better all around gun. i cant stop saying how bad the action is on it though wow awful.

Get the lowest price 700 and you can gussy it up later, they are one of the most accurate factory rifles or they can be made into competitive tack drivers.

I would not waste my money or time on the 770, and I own three Remingtons and a Ruger.
I sold a few guns while at Le Baron and Bass Pro, and I steered people away from this low end mistake.
The Savage would make a far better choice.

Or what Ben said.(My 700 is a stainless, no magazine, .300 WinMag tackdriver)
