I'm wondering if you guys had any idea why my bear bait went cold about a week n a half ago. I started baiting on Aug 6th. The next day I had a sow and 2 cubs hitting the bait. The day after that a nice 200-250# bear was coming in multiple times a day. Couple other little ones would come once in a while, but I pretty much had at least one bear at the bait everyday until it was gone. Went up to bait again Aug 14th and put 100lbs out again, Again bears everyday until it was gone. Went up and baited Sept 1st, Put out over 100lbs of the same stuff. Go back up Sept 7th for a hunt, Sneek into my bait first time that morning with bow in hand only to find the bait still right full and not one bear picture on the camera. A bull moose did come check it out one night though.
I noticed there is ZERO blueberries, raspberries and even the cherry trees have no berries this year. Tons of plants around, last year the ground was littered with them and my bait would get pounded everyday. I figured it would be BETTER with no berries around. But I'm definitely wrong on that.
Did a bit of walking around and noticed a fairly good acorn crop this year. Could this be the reason? Last 3 years I've shot a bear first night in the stand. Kind of stumped on whats happening,
Anyone care to take a guess?
