for grizzly 40 yards will not allow dlp at least in the yukon.
We used to do that out at Chas range back in the day. - dan

2 years ago I was in the East Kootenays hunting elk.
Climbed up to the Top of a Bluff to get a glassing spot, when I got up there, the ground was all turned up (recent).
While I was looking down at the turned earth trying to figure out what tracks were in the dirt, I got a cold chill down my back. I looked up and ahead of me and there was a sizeable Grizzly, staring me down from a legit 35-40’ away.
Never been in that scenario before, never want to be again. I was standing on its excavation plot.
My bear spray would have been great, if the wind wasn’t blowing strongly in my face. My scoped rifle was chambered and ready to go, but honestly after being in that situation, I wanted a defender (full stock) type of 12ga stacked with slugs or 000buck.
It sauntered towards me, and I was able to slowly back out of the situation without conflict, but man what a rush!.
No optics on a close range defense firearm for me, YMMV.
