Bear defense

You're gonna have at least two in a couple of weeks. :) Doesn't make you special though, we've got a sow and two cubs in the neighborhood. Took a run at a friends truck.

Grizz

never pretend to be special but interesting to say we have them in a town of 25 000 people. hope you will have a good time there.

Remington 870 Tactical
Score 12 gauge slug
~250 pound Black bear shot from ~10 feet.

The story involves a neighbour who refuses to pick his apple tree.
A young black bear that decided he wasn't going to be chased out of our yard once more.
I was used to chasing bears away but this is the first one who stepped towards me after I yelled at it. In honesty I let him get way too close before I put him down.
The slug was recovered about half-way down the bears neck after entering between his eyes.
I did tag him afterwards and he tasted just like an apple-fattened bear should taste.

Not at all true, I’ve been stopped many times by the fish cops over the last 25 years, a majority of that time all I had was a fishing license and was carrying shotguns or a long gun loaded with soft points, most times nothing was even said about the guns, the times they did ask why I was open about bear protection, never had an issue. Lots of big bears around my area. Care to show where in the regs or anywhere that states this??? Utter BS

perhaps not often enforced but most certainly is the letter of the law. If you wish to claim BS , that's up to you but you should at least go look it up for yourself first.
If a CO wants to be a #### over the issue, he has a legal avenue to do so.

As far as discretion goes.... "most CO's around here only ask for a drivers license and a hunting license. Rarely , very rarely have I also been asked to provide my firearms license. In 20 years of hunting here in region 5 where I live now , I've been seldom asked to produce a firearms license except at a joint CO/Rcmp road blockade. Otherwise , regardless of season, Co's here want to see a hunting license and check ammo. I've been stopped heading out to mt deception target shooting way hell and gone from town during open black bear season in spring. With no bear tag or hunting license it was good that all we had was FMJ and J4 rounds as he did not want to see any hunting ammuntion unless we had hunting licenses. He reminded us there were at least 2 gun ranges if we wanted to not get hassled target shooting during an open season.
So not BS , but certainly up to a CO's discretion. That was also the only time i can recall, a region 5 CO asking me for a firearms license in absence of no hunting license. I renewed that the next day LOL

If you think it’s fun explaining a long gun try ATC’ing a handgun in a profession you meet COs or RCMP in. It’s like having tits on your hip the entire conversation, no eye contact.

and if you think explaining an ATC handgun is fun..... try explaining a non restricted GM6Lynx haha
ahhh the backwoods are fun sometimes

Just because I live In Vancouver doesn't mean I wont travel out of Vancouver. Anyways there are grizzly bears as low as squamish now. No need to be an a$$

there is and always has been grizzly bears in the mountains surrounding the lowermainland...... a lot closer than squamish depending where a person lives.
I'm heading to bella coola shortly here to fish with the bears , hopefully they don't try and steal my fishes :)

I’m with Tsalt. Because a guy lives in Vancouver doesn’t mean he doesn’t run into bears. Yesterday we had a bear 6 yards from me and the kids, a 20 minute floatplane ride from Vancouver. Play outdoors and you’ll run into bears in BC. Spray is often a better plan but this is a gun forum, and we all like those here.

I think it’s a ### joke reference, no need to get bent out of shape . Just a joke

When I get my renewed ATC I take a copy to the RCMP we have a very good relationship with them up here. They all know I have an ATC and when we meet in the country there are no questions about the handgun other than can they take a look at it or do I know where they can find a bear.

But, but, but then you miss the wide eyed reaction. That's half the fun. Its even better when you pass them the ATC and they mutter something about not knowing there was such a thing.

But....but.....I thought bullets just bounced off of a bears skull!!!!!

That photo shows what is pretty much textbook placement and performance.

I like my 12” barreled 45-70 for this purpose. Just picked up a scabbard for it cheap at Pheonix. 5039933C-E5ED-405B-A788-D955999EEC43.jpg

Nope. Misinformation at best. That is a CO screwing with you. There are no laws against carrying hunting ammunition with you during an open season in BC, there are no laws against carrying a firearm on crown land in BC without a hunting license during an open season, and there are no laws in BC (for the most part, local restrictions do apply in areas) against shooting on crown land.

Pre-PAL days your hunting license was your authorization to carry a firearm on crown land in BC. With the advent of the PAL, that is all you need.
