well after one bad experience this year I got my bear!!! a real little guy lucky if he makes it 5" nose to tail must have been a last years cub that had just left its mother. he should be a really good meat bear! now i can get my other tag and practice the art of waiting and not go charging after every thing i see:redface:
trust me you don't want to see the pics... its dark and they are really bad ill take a pick of the bear in the freezer tomorrow and post it.
oh and buy the way all the bears that i have seen this year i have gotten with in 30 yards so i think it is time for a new slug gun as i think my 308/300 win mag bullets just zing through without doing much damage at the close range. oh ya back to the weapon of choice distance about 30 to 35 yards gun 12 ga maverick pump action shotgun with old federal 1oz 3" mag slugs.

this makes no sense. and I hear it so very often.

this is not the way bullets work. if you bullet failed to open at 35yrds more range will not help.

BTW, it does not have to be a huge bear to make him a trophy, just be happy you got one :D! Now lets see some pics.
 
Congratulations on the bear, death-junky.

Amphibious' advice is right on, at that range projectile failure is not usually lack of expansion, but instead, failure to hold together. Unless you were using FMJs.:p :)
 
Congratulations Riley.... how about some details of the hunt.
Did you stagecoach the bear or stalk him?
Go get the big fella now... how many days left in your season?

At 5 inches he must have been a Fetis ?????:confused:
I'm Kidding:p , a 5 foot bear is probably the average size Bear shot in BC.

it's my 3rd :D lol
well we were coming home from a days hunting hunting and not seeing anything and this little guy ran across the road and into a ditch disappeared so I jump out of the truck and load my shotgun with the slugs and run over to were he went in and low and behold he is standing there all stretched out and looking like a bigger bear. I take aim and squeeze the trigger the bullet smacks the bear to far back and high taking out its spine. then the gun fails to feed one of my slugs for some odd reason. so my uncle comes out and puts one in its head with the 300 win mag. by that time it was about 9 so when we get it down to the road it is dark and the picks are very bad lol but you want to see them so I'll post them.
they are really bad as it is dark by the time i got em.

just because the guy didn't shoot a monster bear doesn't mean it isn't a trophy:rolleyes:

was not makeing fun of his bear size.

and you want to go bring up the harvesting thing again? after you have learned to read, please go back and read that thread. and we'll see who is "PWNED" (WTF? are you 14?) I do and will continue to HARVEST legal game animals over farmland. I see nothing wrong with it. I just don;t consider it hunting. Just like Bear Baiting, and Machine Gunning Bambi. but hey, it's legal, so you go knock yourself out. have a good time, sounds like you could use one.
 
hunting is hunting, trophy hunters r just well stupid, i mean i understand wanting to get a big buck, but all the guys just in it for the racks and the women:D are not hunters.

What make of pump shotgun were you using?

What was the nature of the failure? Was it a failure to extract?

Do you have any ideas on how to remedy the problem?
