I have a belgian browning, mauser action I assume.Serial number L847X.Caliber 308...Bought weaver bases #45 and #46 like the website recommends.Rear base # 45 fits perfect, front has a different pattern and appears to be too low..Hole spacing on the front is .750 approx and the 46 base has .860 approx...With a steel rule held over the bases when on the action there is approx .090" of distance difference with the front being lower..Any help would be greatly apppreciated...These seem to be the right bases for the model unless I am reading the info wrong!~!!

From the serial number i assume it would be the fn one,but I do not know for sure ,the seaver website shows the same mounts for both of them I think,,will double check ,,thanks a bunch!!!!

I think they use Sako actions for a few years, I'd bet that is your problem. A quick picture of the action and one of the bolt face would confirm that.

That appears to be a small ring Mauser. The rear base to be used is a #55 and usually the front is #46. In this case the hole spacing is odd on this rifle. I don't think you will find a Weaver base to fit it. If you alter a #46 and use a #55 that should work. Or plug the front hole and drill and tap a new one.... that would be the easiest fix I think.

I see the mark x mauser uses a 55 rear and a 20A for the front,I will try to check out what the heck a 20 A is .....Or I will drill and tap as recommended..What is the thread pitch on these screws???

If you have to ask, you will probably not have the correct tap and you will not find one at your local supplier. A number 31 drill and a 6 x 48 tap.

I will have to check at the shop for this tap,not used to working on things so small,if I have to modify it I might go one size bigger anyway.

I have found the best way to alter this is to take a 6 x 48 screw, heat it to a blue colour to soften the hardening, let it cool and screw it into the front hole with permanent loctite. Let it sit an hour and then carefully file it down flush with the receiver top.

Then locate the "new" front hole and drill and tap using a 6 x 48 tap.

I wouldn't recommend larger "non gun" screw sizes.

I have found the #71 base holes line up perfectly, the countour of the base is out slightly but a little polishing made it fit perfect. The 55 rear base fits perfect and solved the height issue so no drilling and tapping was needed!!! Thanks for the help!!The screws sent with the 55 base were 2 different lenghts and the 45 base screws are a tad too long to fit the 55 so will shorten the screw to fit..Bit of a project .
.

I have a friend who has the exact same rifle and he also had a hard time identifying the bases required, he did get it scoped and I will ask him what he used for the job, Do Not drill and tap this rifle there are proper bases out there, I will try and get an answer for you. As guntech mentioned this rifle is indeed built on a small ring mauser action but the screw spacing is off, don,t fool with the metal be patient this is a quality gun don,t go drilling holes in it.
