You did nothing wrong, you were honest and straight forward. It was the insinuations of others who promote circumventing unfortunate laws governing our great sport and those items we need to enjoy it. Look at it as an information chat and answers to what could possibly happen if this were to be done, maybe not today, next week or even in the next 6 months, but it has happened to good people before.

I already had several member pm myself in the pass about buying a restricted pistol but he don't wanted to wait for the transfered going though, and ask if I could just send him the pistol after he pay, another member ask me to sell him a restricted item, but He doesn't have a restricted status on him FAC yet, and it planning to get one in 2 weeks, one guy ask me to look for ammo for him when I go to the state, he was referred to Buying a bulk load of ammo. It is seem to me that very Unethical since he was the one one here preaching about purchasing stuff from the US and bring it across the border is Illegal.

As usual I am not 100% certain of what you are saying here. However you had better NOT be referring to ME.

To set the record straight I posted my original comments strictly to advise another member of the forum that they were breaking some laws, that they may not have been aware of. We have enough criminals in this country, I see no reason to increase the number, through not knowing all the ins and outs of importing/exporting

Lets be candid, it is clear from the tone and statements in your original posts your primary motivation was business related.

It was clear that Sharps was unaware of the regulations. Instead of plainly spelling out the legal process you elected to lambaste him, point out how he was destroying Canadian businesses, and imply he was a criminal. None of that is advice.

The same topic has come up before and dealt with more tact and genuine advice by other dealers than you claim you be.

Yup these are the guys who dictate that firearms, parts of firearms and technologies as well as ahost of other items are controlled, by permits, licenses and they get to decide who can have what and what it takes to procure things.
2 are our government agencies who wield great power and have substantial teeth when it comes to enforcement. ITAR is enforced by Dept of State and Homeland Security internationally, BATF domesticly in the US.

Have you heard of anyone getting charged for having a MacMillan or Bell Carlson stock shipped to their home address in Canada? I haven't, You probably wont. The governments involved don't want these cases to get into a court room. They don't want any presidents set.

There are a number of Retailer in The US would willing to do the paper work, and will send these item to Canada, the paper work is not much to do, there are waiting period for it, but don't let any one fool you into thinking that you would have to purchase from dealer only. if you willing to wait for the paper work, you will end up saving several hundred of Dollars, Mcmillan stock cost around $500-600mark US, selling in Canada from certain dealer in Calgary for around $1000. HS cost around $400-500 depend on Option, will sell for around $900. do the math.
I don't mind purchasing rifles stock or bullet from Canadian retailer, to supported them, because that my hobbies, but be honest about it.

I did read from the beginning of this Post and I got to say that people do really think now a day about how their money is best spend, there is nothing Illegal about purchasing stuff from the US side and have it send it back here, or purchasing it from US and declared in the Canada side when you come back, it is illegal in some retailer eye, because losing out on the sales, well wake up and start given better price, not just good service that I am talking about, I was at LA gun shops 2 week ago, and a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X50 sales for $1499 but here in Canada it sold for around $2000 and over mark, and believe or not, retailer do get a better price than Us do...

So My conclusion is that people have become smarter and do think about how money is being spend, and I for one will not take the BS from some of these dealer, But I do support the honest dealer...

Like I said there nothing here that I see are Illegal, how ever asking some one to look for a large amount of bullet for them when Talking about buying stuff from the US, That is Very Illegal...

I'm not quiiiiite ready to lock this (yet). I would like to believe that cooler heads are providing sage advice. However once this discussion begins to bat around other illegal strategies or ventures, I'm punting this conversation. We are being watched and I ain't gonna jeopardize what Greentips has built. For the record, I'm backing Leeper, Steve David, and Rick at Alberta Taktical Rifle, so let's keep this civil.

Peace be to journey....

Throwing Stones

Obviously people don't want to let this thread die.

Phrases that comes to mind are "Let he without sin cast the first stone" and "People living in glass houses ought not to throw stones".

I have received a surprising number of pm's with comments about experience with various dealers and importers, some very unflattering. It would make for a very interesting thread if we posted our experiences rating these businesses on a scale ranging from "Great people to deal with" to "I'd give up shooting before dealing with this guy again". We've all had experiences at both ends of the scale and it would be interesting to compare notes.

Things have degenerated to the level of taking shots at each other. If we are being monitored, it's making them laugh. We've got bigger things to deal with being potentially the last Canadian generation to own guns as currently allowed.
We've lost access to many already and there are many 'paper criminals' out there as a result. An entire generation of newbies has been denied 12(6) prohibs and don't know or care about what they've lost.

It's the 'slow boil of the frog' syndrome and it's working. Half the shooters I know are so young they don't have memories that predate FAC's and don't think it untoward having to produce a PAL, thumbprint from God and a note from mother to buy a brick of .22 ammo at Wal*Mart. Then have it carried by a teenager to the check out.

The tadpoles that came late into the pot got used to the temperature as being normal. The 'old frogs' found the heat too high but didn't hop out. Each new law and restriction cranks the burner higher.

It isn't the politicians and bureaucrtas I blame, it's all us 'frogs' that accepted the bull#### and allowed it to happen just because (a) it's the Canadian way to acquiesce and (b) because we couldn't make ourselves believe that our government would ever distrust us with guns.

Once again I make the appeal, gentlemen - stop the internecine infighting.

From the CFC Website:

Exception: Your supplier does not require a Canadian import document for muzzle-loading firearms, antique firearms, pellet guns or BB guns. Neither do they require one for shipments of firearm parts (other than frames, barrels, cylinders, receivers, and complete breech mechanisms) with a total wholesale value of less than $100 US.

Unless the stock is considered a Frame, and the Wholesale value of the stock is $100 or less......I see no laws broken.

If someone has a comprehensive "no-no" list from the US State Department that they can post, please do as I could not find it.

The list or standard is constantly changing. The most recent change was only a couple of months ago and affects a lot of AR15 components. They will no longer allow the export of flash hiders or folding, collapsible stocks, or even 5.56mm chambers. Believe that even threaded muzzles are now a no-no. It's like an AWB for Canada. I actually don't believe that any rules have changed, only their interpretation. It is scary though, under their current thinking they could ban all export of .300 Win Mags because the US Navy Seals have rifles in that caliber.

Oh, and he did break US law. The stock clearly cost more than $100. However, he didn't break any Canadian law. The import permit is to satisfy US requirements, not our own.

Yes, you can legally export most stuff, as long as you have someone stateside with the proper permits to export it for you. However, their time is just as valuable as ours and they will charge accordingly. In the end it may cost you close to the same. If you're ordering multiple items at once it will no doubt be cheaper since it can all go on one permit. Always wondered why some dealers out her charge per item.

Some people just do not get it. For those of you who have offered positive feedback and the way it really is, Rick more so then anyone, lets just forget it now. Those of you who want to circumvent the process, by all means go ahead and do so, see what happens when you do get caught that one time. This went from basically an information gathering thread to an out right slamming of a certain dealer, who is nothing but informative and helpful, and other posters.

Wait a minute there Steve I seen a bunch of "Dealer" attacking a true honest Canadian calling him a "Criminal". Now that is a load of horse manure. You can side with Rick and the other dealers I have no problem with that at all everyone has a right to there own opinion. Maybe next time Rick and his band of hardcore stock police will understand that there are better ways to go about explaining this than going on the attacking of a good honest Canadian.
Because none of you hardcores liked it when I attacked rick but either way I still stand by my right to shop where ever I want if that in Canada or the US.

I'm out enough is enough

Okay, that's it. I love you all, but this is not the direction a supportive CGNutz community should be taking. Let's look after each others' backs or else we'll all be shooting air rifles like in Japan.....
