belt feed semi form marstar

The 5 round limitation does not apply if the belt is origional, not a reproduction, and made for a type of firearm in production before 1945.

Doesn't matter what gun you put the belt into, or what caliber you squeeze into the belt, just that the belt meets the definition above.

So that means that you can put 250 rounds of .308 into an origional 1950s dated 30-06 belt, and your OK. You can also put them into USGI links from that era and your OK. But if you put more than 5 into the Isreali links, you have made a prohibited device. Or if you modify your gun to take the curent NATO links, you would also be restricted to 5 rounds.

Clear as mud??

Hmm... let me think... we,, my MG34 likes to fire A LOT more than 5 rounds at a time, so I have to say yes - you can have more than 5 rounds under the right circumstances ;)

What apparently happened was that when they were drafting the magazine capacity law, some historical shooting group managed to get an exemption for Garand clips, WW2 and earlier type belts, and selected drum magazines such as for the Bren, the Lewis, the Vickers, and the Luger. They also had the Lee Enfield magazine exempted, although it was never really in danger since it was origionally built for a bolt action rifle. (Yes, I know about the few full auto Enfield conversions, but how many 10 round mags were origionally built for them? The conversions merely accepted the bolt action rifle's magazines)

It is also interesting that they did not use the term "origional, not a reproduction" for the Luger drum mag, so a reproduction mag should be good to go with it's full capacity.

I have one of Marstar's TNW M1919A4 GPMGs. By next week I hope to have my 8mm barrel completed so I can shoot that cheap Marstar swedish 8mm ammo. Nice thing is it already comes on factory loaded 250 round belts.

HI-JACK: I have a chrome lined 8mm mauser barrel. Are you building from scratch or are you reaming an exsisting 8mm barrel? I'm torn between rechambering this new barrel or???? I would love to shoot cheap ammo.

There are a couple schools of thought for this project.
The problem with chrome lined is that it will destroy the chamber reamer, and since they are worth several 100 bucks, you won't save much money doing that.
I have an old 8mm mauser barrel that I considered turning down and pinning in to a bored out .308 1919 barrel. But that project will have to wait.

You basically have two options: You can order a 8mm barrel blank from bits and pieces in BC or you can go through the hassles of importing one from the US. I won't discuss which way I went.

The barrel blanks are listed as 1-1/4 inches, so it will turn to the proper size without a problem. Length is plenty fine too, and they are not chrome lined. You would also have to turn the threads, and have the adjusting notches machined in.

I am picking my barrel up this morning, so hopefully will have a couple hundred rounds through it by the end of the weekend. I have a pile of over 21,000 rounds sitting in the garage now, all on belts.

I know there are other guys wanting these barrels. Perhaps, after getting permission from the mods, a group buy, either made in Canada or imported from the US, could be arranged. If this works out, I wouldn't mind a second barrel. Of course, that means I would have to buy another 20,000 rounds too.
When you think about it, If a barrel ended up costing $400, you would be ahead of the game after just 2,000 rounds as opposed to shooting .308.

I have no doubt I will regret only having bought as many rounds as I have. Mind you, if I had bought more than 21,000 I think the honda would have lost an axle bringing it home.

FWIW, most MG42 and MG34 barrels were not chrome lined and work just fine - or at least my two MG34 barrels work just fine. Though you do have to clean them thoroughly.
